Trump wants to impose a 10% on all imported goods. Think about how much money that would cost you and your family. Republicans suck at the economy, example infinity.

Trump’s proposed 10% tariff plan would ‘shake up every asset class,’ strategist says

The former president, and overwhelming favorite to secure the Republican nomination for the 2024 race, plans to impose a 10% tariff on all imported goods, trebling the government’s intake and aiming to incentivize American domestic production.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said earlier this month that the plan would “raise the cost of a wide variety of goods that American businesses and consumers rely on,” though she noted that tariffs are appropriate “in some cases.”

Criticism of the policy has been relatively bipartisan. The Tax Foundation think tank highlights that such a tariff would effectively raise taxes on U.S. consumers by more than $300 billion a year, along with triggering retaliatory tax increases by international trade partners on U.S. exports.

The center-right American Action Forum estimated, based on the assumption that trading partners would retaliate, that the policy would result in a 0.31% ($62 billion) decrease to U.S. GDP, making consumers worse off and decreasing U.S. welfare by $123.3 billion.

Can't lower inflation like that.

We need a separate forum for all these "Trump wants to....." fake news threads. FFS There must be 10,000 of them on USMB.
How is it fake when Trump says it's what he's going to do?

Oh, I get it - you know Trump's a fucking liar, so we shouldn't believe anything he says. Good one!

Don't forget it's polling time, so anything that has to do with em "bad foreigners" that supposedly prevent America from getting great are on the propaganda tabloids.
In order to make America great - one would need a 40-50% price hike on any goods sold in the USA, in order to make their respective production in the USA "attractive" to a US based industry. Naturally a price spiral impacts wages, that would need to be increased by at least 30%. Therefore a zero to zero equation.

And capitalist ( I am one) practicality will dictate that the respective producing companies are NOT willing to invest into a US based production to end up on a zero to zero equation, that beholds no "satisfactory" profit-margin. As such they will just as they have been doing since the 60'ies, invest their $ into foreign markets/production, outsourcing their productions. And make their customers carry the burden of tariffs.

In view of global competitiveness it is crystal clear that Made in USA isn't competitive at all, neither is Made in EU. However for existing Western industries to make a profit - they desperately need exports. Aka markets that are willing to pay a "premium" for products that mostly just promise, or sometimes factually behold quality or innovative solutions/advantages.

It is only isolationists and plain dummies that can't grasp this basic economic principal of a free market run and dictated by private owned enterprises, that are not subjected to government control and directives.

Bearing in mind this US democratic "spirit" - see e.g. right to arms, I am simply laughing off my head in view of those Americans then being willing to accept government control over the industry aka their very own life, in order to Make America Great Again.

MAGA is and will remain, the biggest hoax in American history.
