Political Question

Do you believe Senators' vote's must be published in an impeachment trial.

If President Trump is impeached, and then tried in the Senate, can the votes of the Senators remain private, or must they be published?
Every vote a Senator casts is a matter of public record.

Trump isn't going to be impeached. He's going to be censured by the House, and that will be the end of it.

If it goes to the senate their votes should be recorded.

That would be politically the wise thing to do. Votes to impeach are putting targets on people. Possibly literally

This "political question" demonstrates just how totally spineless the Republicans have become.

There isn't a single vertebra among them.

Trump certainly is trying to paint targets on the whistleblower and his sources. He literally wants them killed.

The Congressional Record is the official source of information on recorded floor votes. Votes are printed in the daily Record as they occur on the floor. The votes provide an alphabetical listing of members under “yea,” “nay,” and “not voting” categories and show the overall tally for each category. However, votes are not identified by party or by state. The Daily Digest section that is printed at the end of each Record shows how many roll call votes were taken that day and show on what page in the Record the votes can be found. The Congressional Record Index provides subject access to the votes (under “Votes in Senate” and “Votes in House.”)

Senate roll call vote tallies are posted online within an hour of the vote. You can view today's votes or use the vote tables to look at any roll call vote taken since the 101st Congress (1989). In addition to vote tallies, the entries also provide brief descriptions of the votes and links to Congress.gov for the texts of the legislation.

The Senate will undoubtedly keep their lips glued firmly to Trumps fat ass regardless what he does.

I think politically it would look pretty weak. Also, I'm not so sure a good reason to not impeach a president is because its fanbase might get violent. Not a good precedent to set.

Ultimately, whether it's a censure or impeachment will come down to which is more popular, not whether the GOP senators would kill it or not.

every congress critter should have their votes on record as a matter of course - their constituents should know their voting record no matter the issue.

my rep & both senators, chris murphy & richard blumenthal have already gone on the record that they indeed want trump impeached & want it tried in the senate.

Don't know the rules but would guess it would be public. Requires a 2/3rds vote in the Senate to convict so even if it comes to trial, one or two votes varying from a vote along party lines won't make any difference.

they do - votes are public record.

To access votes using Congress.gov search for a bill and click on the "Actions" tab. All House and Senate roll call votes will be listed with links to the House and Senate's web pages.

Thinking about censure, that might really be astute. I don't think a maj of voters, or a maj enough to vote Trump out, will be persuaded by "impeachment." Impeachment is really always a loser. And the Senate won't convict. Pelosi could allow her members to vote on both, and without a maj to impeach, only censure goes to the senate.

Americans will not support a potus strongarming another country in damaging a pol opponent just to hold onto power. Aside from the const and laws, people will realize it's just wrong and …. cheating.

Moscow Mitch having to cover a censure would be …. sweeeeeeet

They might want to keep it secrets so they can get re-elected.

They might want to openly vote for impeachment so they can get re-elected.

Depends on where they live. even some Republican areas might favor impeachment eventually. Utah, for example.

Well ultimately the question is whether Americans will say "no" to a potus who thinks it's ok to use the DOJ to engage with a for govt to take out a political adversary.
