Yesterday, or maybe the day before, there was a thread posted about increasing numbers of people shunning family/disinviting them from Thanksgiving dinner over the outcome of the recent election. I replied that this was an oft-overlooked form of political extremism, which got a bunch of laugh reacts from people who, presumably, thought I was joking. I wasn't. I reckon political extremism is behavior that is unreasonable and out of the ordinary, motivated by a person's politics. Think about this for a second, cutting off friends and family isn't normal, healthy behavior. If we did it because of religious differences, the behavior would be described as cultish. And yet, when it comes to politics, nobody seems to bat an eyelash. I guess my question is, how do you define political extremism? Do you think there are any examples of it that we often miss?
