A man has died after being shot by police after officers were called to reports of a row in the street.
The shooting happened at around 2am in Swindon, with a police watchdog now probing the fatal incident.
Locals said they heard loud bangs and shouting before ambulances arrived.
The victim was seen receiving CPR from paramedics in the back of an ambulance but was later confirmed to have died before reaching hospital.
This morning a rifle-style pellet gun was seen being retrieved from the scene as neighbours paid tribute to the man who died, the Swindon Advertiser reports.
I worked in Swindon many years ago and it is probably the dullest place on the planet. Not much detail yet but the fear is that we are becoming like America.
