Police officers are retiring and quitting

If I was a bad police officer, I would realize that my outside opportunities would be limited. If I was dissatisfied,I wouldn't quit, I'd just go to work every day and do a really half assed job, limping my way to a full pension by avoiding trouble by avoiding ugly confrontations with angry black people.
Of course you do.

They don't do shit for me so they can all quit
Something bad must have happened in your childhood that resulted in your never advancing into adulthood. Cases of arrested development as severe as yours seldom happen without trauma.

Why do you say that?
Giving people guns and uniforms is inherently unhealthy.
Since they indirectly profit from the citations they write, they are going to be encouraged to be abusive.
They have cut themselves off from normal prosecution for abuses.
The police are the means by which all dictatorships are created and maintained.
They are totally contrary to the concepts of a democratic republic, where government authority only comes from the defense of inherent individual rights.
Whether or not we can do without police is another discussion, but clearly police are always inherently negative.

Police officers across the country are retiring and quitting at record levels.

Good. It's not like it's hard to replace the bad cops.

Why are you assuming that its "bad cops" who are quitting?

Wouldn't it be more likely that competent police officers would be the ones more like to hang up their badges? After all, competent people tend to have more opportunities available for them as other employers are interested in their services.

Yup. The will retire or leave and head for another city or State. They should head for the Red. They won't get thrown under the bus or have their departments defunded.

They certainly look like they are ready to kick ass, I'm not inclined to give them any lip.
I guess I don't think the defining characteristic of the police in my city should be "intimidating".

Sorta feels a little bit authoritarian to me.

Nah. That idiot probably doesn't have a gun and sure can't take care of himself. He calls the cops for that. Wonder what his stupid ass will do when there are no cops?? Maybe a social worker or Park Ranger will show up. LOL

Most things do not require a gun.
For example, if someone is trying to break in, they likely thought the house was unoccupied and are easily scared away.
A baseball bat is good enough.
The cops never get there until its too late, so "when there are no cops", there will be no change.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, for example, saw retirements increase by 37 percent in 2020. But they claim the rise isn’t related to the push for police reforms across the country.

New York City’s Police Department saw an 87 percent increase in retirements from 2019 to 2020. Union officials in the largest police force in the nation say the exodus is being fueled by pressure by racial advocates to defund police or impose major reforms.

Nearly 20 percent of Minneapolis police officers retired or took leaves of absence following the death of George Floyd. It could get worse. Minneapolis city officials are waiting to see if the leaves of absences become retirements. “It’s serious,” said the VP of the board of trustees for the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago. “A lot of these people aren’t retiring. They’re quitting,” he said.

Portland, Oregon, has seen months of unrelenting riots. Police officers, some high ranking, are leaving in droves because they say they are “overworked, overwhelmed, and burned out.” These, and some very cutting comments, were part of 31 written exit interviews. Of the 117 officers who left, 43 of them simply quit.

Wonder how many of these cities are filling these positions with social workers.

I wonder what would happen if police just collectively decided to take a sick out one day, and let the criminals know about it.

Probably wouldn't be an issue in the rural areas, but the suburban and urban areas would be in for a very rude shock.
It's called the "Blue Flu" and it's happened many times in major city Police Departments, usually during Union negotiations.

And the funny thing is that every time the police do a "blue flu" call in, crime reduces.
The city still caves and gives them the raises they want, because the city is not interested in if crime goes up or down, but instead are only interested in that $30 million a year that police generate in citation revenue.

LOL Tell that to the folks who have been shot in their own homes.

Never bring a bat to a gunfight.

Cops get there as quick as they can.

Oh if there weren't cops I think you would find a big change.

Understandable.

Not sure who would want to be a police officer right now...

But a problem of their own making.
Police have no one else to blame, except maybe the makers of bodycameras.

Thats fine, but the problem isn’t going away anytime soon regardless of these reforms. If both good and bad cops are leaving the job, how do the states and municipalities replace those officers without lowering standards even further?

Criminals who commit home burglaries are never intending to run into anyone, and are picking homes they think are empty.
I don't ever remember of reading about people being shot in their own home, except by police, like Breonna Taylor.
If you compare the number of police with the size of their district, police should always be able to respond to any call in less than a minute or 2. But they never response in less than 15 minutes and sometimes 30. Which means they not only are coming from the precinct station, but are taking their time about that even.
If there weren't cops, then I think every household would be armed, and I think that would be a huge improvement.

There essentially were no cops until after about 1900 when the automobile made cops profitable.
We did fine then, likely better than now.
So there is no reason to assume we need cops at all.
They arrive too late to actually do anything but write up a report.

You should pay them a bit more. You might attract better calibre people.

Nothing wrong with the caliber of people we have right now in the tremendous City of Hermitage.

They certainly look like they are ready to kick ass, I'm not inclined to give them any lip.

To be honest I wouldn't be inclined to give any police officer any lip!!!
MAGA

So if you were doing nothing wrong or the elderly woman they throw to the ground was not doing anything wrong, you would not try to stop them when they violate the law?

That is no longer true. In Democrat enclaves the number of Hot burglaries (where people are in the home, and the burglars know it) is on the rise. Home invasions are escalating.
