Pistol, rifle or shotgun for home defense.....by former Delta Force legend.

Agree on the shotgun, not good. I live in a small house, so it ain't likely I'm gonna miss somebody with my 2 9mm pistols. And I got 16 shots at the bastard plus a couple of mags to reload, so I ain't worried too much. That's what gun ranges are for, to get proficient with a pistol at close range. I do have an AR-15, but I don't see the need for it unless I'm shooting at a whole buncha guys. And that red dot, doesn't that kinda give away your position? Most likely if I start shooting then the bad guys are gonna run like hell.

I use a shotgun loaded with birdshot for inside the house. That way any pellet that misses will stop in the wall.

depends on day or night, first you need a good light to see what you are going to shoot at

a remington police with 00 buck and a good surefire will get the job done.

you might need to get out some spackle if you are off target

You cannot beat a scattergun for home defense. A buddy used to always tell me, load 1-2 rounds with birdshot to show that you tried, but follow it up with buckshot for stopping power if all else fails.

Oh, bird shot at close range removes whatever it hits.

Shotgun for home defense for me and it’s not even close…My theory is; should I be awakened from a deep sleep and have to respond to a troubling noise down the hall I probably won’t be the Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon that I think I am…Even a bit out of it I can’t miss with my semi auto Benelli M4.

This guy is a Special Forces legend......

So I see the picture for the link on your post and I'm wondering why this guy is packing an unloaded AR? He going to use it as a club ?
Notice there is no magazine loaded into it.

As for the OP question; my house is a small barely 1,000 sq.ft., 1970s rambler.
While in the house I'll grab the .357 Taurus, revolver since the first couple rounds are frangibles (the rest hollow point). I'd also grab the Glock, .40 cal.
Even with the short 18" barrel, that Mossberg 12 gauge is still a bit large to swing in the house.
Now if the situation is outside, or shifts there, then yeah, grab the shotgun. First couple rounds are #7 or #8 birdshot, but there after is 00 (or slug).
I'm in a very rural area. Sometimes it can be four legged varmints. Sometimes even cougar have been spotted in this area.

Unless there is a gang~mob~zombies I'd likely not need any of the rifles.

Probably scares the shit outta whatever it misses. Pretty much any gun will do that though, even a .22 makes a lotta noise in a small house and I suspect most bad guys are gonna turn and run. If they don't, then that's when you want something with a lotta bullets and magazines.

Pistol caliber carbine is a good choice - better than a shotgun for everything except per-shot energy delivery.

Maybe someday, PSA will make the AK-V in 10mm.

My AR-15 is a PSA 5.56 carbine that also fires .223 ammo. You can put frangible bullets in it, at least for the 1st few shots and then switch to hollow points. Whatdya think? But my first weapon is my 9mm handgun with 16 loads in it.

Other than possible over penetration, there's nothing wrong with an AR in 5.56

How do you get to be a legend? Sound bad? Look bad and grow a beard and shave your head? Run as a legend candidate? Home defense depends on whether you live in a environment where a stray bullet can kill a neighbor. Buy a single barrel 12 ga (pretty cheap) and cut it down to legal length. Load it up with double O buck and you have a potent sewer pipe to intimidate the invader and if push comes to shove you have a shotgun round with 8 .32 cal. balls to back up your threat.

Do you know who he is? He is John Mcphee, former Delta Force operator with a career as a Green Beret and Delta Force member who fought in both Iraq and Afghanistan.....stacked up lots of terrorists in his career..........he now trains others on how to shoot...

So my understanding is that placing landmines is illegal, even on property one owns.
How about just the signs?

Asking for a friend.

Just a suggestion, I know it scrambles the minds of Americans, why not try reasonable force?

Do you find that concept alien?
