I'm going to be driving from Pennsylvania to North Carolina next week for an event, and I am always careful as far as picking up people who are thumbing on the side of the road.

The #1 rule is to avoid picking up hitchhikers in vicinity of state and federal penitentiaries, particularly if they are men wearing orange jumpsuits.

Few men, outside of convicts doing time, find this kind of clothing to be fashionable and even guys who are being legitimately released are usually wearing something else when they are let out.

I watch all the shows. American Monster. Evil Lives Here. See No Evil. Signs of a Psychopath. You should not pick up anyone.

One situation comes to mind. The little skinny black boy asked the 20 something year old lady for a ride. She thought he was harmless. Then he became a MONSTER and raped her. She thought he was a little innocent boy. She even said she remembered feeling guilty because if he was a white boy that age she'd have no problem giving him a ride. BIG mistake.

If a murderer, or person who's gonna rob you decides to stalk you as pray, they'll pretend to be nice, do whatever it takes to get you alone then stab you 4 times before you know what happened.

I pick up hikers cuz i did a lot of it myself as a lad w/out wheels. Best luck i had was holding a beer out , while holding the bag under the other arm, worked like a charm @ quitin' time....~S~

Picking up hitchhikers dos and donts

I hitch-hiked around the world from 1975 to 1982 through all of Europe, all of Africa, all of Asia, all across Australia, and all of North America. It was easier then but I didn't realize that Charles Sobhraj was picking up many of his victims in some of the places I had been during that time.

Women should NEVER pick up hitchhikers. Men may pick up hitch hikers, but they should be prepared to act if necessary. If it becomes a serious threat, crash the car. Never willingly go to the second crime scene.

If you have to even worry about that, don't pick up hitch hikers. This guy seems like I could easily take him in a fight but with a knife he can have me stabbed deep 3 or 4 times because I can even say "hey, what are you doing?"

Every time I was hitching back in the day, I was always clean and wearing fresh clothing....Would I pick me up?

I can’t remember the last time I saw a hitchhiker.

Around here pedestrians are generally banned on the main roads. I was in court waiting for my case to be called one day and there was this funny exchange where someone was charged with failing to appear. Guy said his car wouldn't start. Judge said well where he lived he could have walked to court in 30 minutes tops and the guy pointed out at that time it was illegal for pedestrians to be on any of the bridges crossing the river. Judge found him guilty anyway, but after that I checked and sure enough all the bridges were on roads where pedestrians were prohibited.

Anyway, since then, we have three bridges that now have pedestrian lanes on them thanks to Obama's Shovel-Ready nonsense but they are part of a park system along the river. The roads they are on are still pedestrian/bicycle prohibited.

I’ve never seen a hitchhiker in my life

The judge's cousin owns a taxi company.
