I think it's the unevenness of the weapons. One guy with a knife, several cops with loaded guns. IF the domestic abuser hadn't been shot, had reached the cops, what would have happened? He would have been overwhelmed and taken down, put in the back of a cruiser and taken to jail. Would he really have been able to stab one of them to death first when they all saw him coming and were prepared? I dunno. But I think that's where the complaint probably lies.
Well ok then....next time have the officers put down THEIR weapons and lets see how many the thug can stab before they subdue him.
I wasn't saying they should, but is there another way than a group of cops opening fire on one crazed guy with a knife apparently intent on harikiri? The answer, if there is an alternative, doesn't lie in that moment, but alternatives well before that. I don't know if they would work, but that is what is being suggested. There is a pretty bristly attitude toward cops in the black community, so sending in a bunch of them to wave guns around is not going to calm things down. In this particular situation, no one will ever know.
