Montgomery County authorities on Thursday announced the dismantling of a bustling gun trafficking network allegedly run by three Philadelphia-area teenagers, whom they accused of putting dozens of illegally obtained firearms on the streets ā€” some of which have since been linked to shootings.
The leaders of the group, all of whom were either too young to buy guns themselves or were barred from doing so because they had felony records, paid straw buyers from $150 to $200 a day to purchase the weapons, sometimes three or four at a time, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said.
In just July and August, authorities said, the group illegally obtained at least 44 guns purchased from shops across the region. Some were to fill orders submitted over text messages and social media, prosecutors said, while others appear to have been sold off on Instagram.
In all, prosecutors have charged nine adults and five juveniles with playing roles in the scheme. But only six of the weapons have been recovered, including one linked to a shooting in Cheltenham and four more seized as a result of search warrants in Philadelphia.

Ok. So the adults have a five year mandatory minimum. Let's hope that stays.

Garage sales, gun shows, anyone? Right to bear Arms? Buy and sell weapons and any other possessions as we please without the government infringing on our rights?

All 100% legal under the Constitution. Congress can't just pass some law or statute on its own to ban guns without a Constitutional basis.

The right to bear arms is neither unlimited nor absolute; the sale and possession of firearms are subject to government regulation consistent with Constitutional case law ā€“ the Supreme Court has held that the regulation of the commercial sale of firearms is supported by the Second Amendment, in this case background checks and provisions concerning prohibited persons.

Background checks ā€˜infringeā€™ on no rights.

And the topic isnā€™t about ā€˜banningā€™ guns; no one advocates for ā€˜banningā€™ or ā€˜confiscatingā€™ guns ā€“ thatā€™s a red herring.

The Constitution prohibits the banning of handguns; other types of firearms are subject to more comprehensive restrictions.

The topic isn't about the second amendment and garage sales. In fact, one would think that the 2A people would be all over this because these are clearly not law abiding citizens.

The for or against argument has been dead since incorporation.

ā€œ2A peopleā€ arenā€™t Second Amendment adherents ā€“ indeed, theyā€™re hostile to most Second Amendment jurisprudence.

And what ā€œ2A peopleā€ would say is that the thread topic is ā€˜proofā€™ that background checks in particular, and firearm regulatory measures in general, ā€˜donā€™t workā€™ and should be repealed.

Needless to say this is nonsense, background checks in fact work, thousands of prohibited persons are prevented from purchasing firearms from dealers each year or are otherwise prosecuted for violating gun laws ā€“ the thread topic is evidence of that.

No law is perfect or comprehensive, no one presents background checks as a ā€˜panaceaā€™ for all gun crime and violence.

The vast majority of 2A arguments occur right after a mass shooting that makes it on national news with exception to 2Aguy that can make that argument out of an ad for Rice Krispies utilizing the snap, crackle AND pop-pop-pop.

Mass shooting occurs---ignore actual event---demand for gun control---conspiracy theory set in motion for taking away guns---significant factors revealed indicating that gun control was not the issue or there was a breakdown somewhere along the way--ignore actual event- name your candidate chuckles and screams out will take guns-----still ignoring actual event---name your normally laid back individual frothing at the mouth stating bring it-- having arrived at the extremes absolutely nothing is done about anything.
UN plot.....

Well, here we are and it's not a school shooting (or other). So maybe we can bypass knee jerk reactions. There's no harm in saying someone has a valid point. There is also no harm in looking at alternative solutions. For myself, it's time to return to locking people back up for gun crimes and this includes juveniles. If the streets are not safe enough for my grandma or five year old to walk down then it isn't safe enough for anyone else's.

But did the guys buying and selling hurt anyone?

Or were they just doing business?
