Philip Seymour Hoffman is dead

"Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose — in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm"

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman

What a shock

He was a versatile actor who made others around him better

He's always fought his demons. Gets clean, comes back, makes a great film, thinks he can play, ... gets clean, etc.

This is a HUGE shock to me. After watching his performance in [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIizh6nYnTU"]Synecdoche, New York[/ame] I had to know more about this ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT actor. I encourage everyone to see this film, it is my favorite of ALL TIME.

My god I wonder what end his life. Out of the 150,000+ deaths today, this is hard hitting.

Curious why such successful people wAnt an escape from their lives via drugs. Shows money and fame can't buy happiness

Addiction is no respecter of class, race, religion, gender - nothing. Addicts happen on every level of class and society.

Sad. But some inner pain must cause them
To start, then they get addicted

OMG! I've been there but didn't die. Addiction is a tragedy, not a character flaw. I wonder if it was intentional or if he had contemplated/tried to end it..

It's selfish to say, but after finding out he was in Catching Fire last night, I hope they finished filming his parts in the Mockingjay movies. I looked forward to him having a bigger part in the last two films. He was an amazing actor.

He was such a good actor. Too bad his addiction won out, terribly sad, big loss.

I'm happy to hear you won out. Not everybody is as lucky. One of my old friends died of a heroin overdose at the young age of 21. It's a tragedy that can strike anybody, anywhere.

My best friend died from an overdose. His funeral was the saddest moment of my life. I truly feel for mr, hoffman's friends, loved ones, etc.
