Paramount Agrees to pay Trump $16 million in CBS 60 Minutes lawsuit

You can’t sue someone for failing “ethical” responsibilities.
Really? Negligence is unethical and all kinds of people get rightfully sued for that. HIPPA violations are unethical and will result in the healthcare worker losing their jobs and possibly their licenses. And of course the patient can sue you if they are aware of it.

You don't know what you're talking about. And the semantics problem is yours. You don't seem to have a clue what ethics are which is probably because you're a democrat.

Engaging in unethical business practices can lead to severe legal consequences, including fines, lawsuits, reputational damage, and even criminal prosecution, negatively impacting a company's bottom line and long-term viability. False advertising, environmental negligence, financial fraud, discrimination, intellectual property infringement, and concealed business agendas can lead to devastating legal implications. Companies may face civil and criminal penalties, loss of licenses, and reputational damage, ultimately compromising their ability to operate. In addition, executives may be held criminally liable, facing fines, imprisonment, or both. The far-reaching consequences of unethical business practices underscore the importance of prioritizing ethics and integrity in business operations, and exploring the complexities of these issues can provide invaluable insights for companies seeking to mitigate legal risks.

Even if we accept your accusation that CBS was behaving in a partisan manner, they have a first amendment right to do so. You can’t successfully sue someone for engaging in protected speech.
I never said what they did was illegal, that's the mixing of terms that you did.

But it was certainly unethical and unethical behavior by professionals gets sued many times every day. FAFO, CBS!

Yes you cannot edit in an answer to another question into the asked question in order to not look like brain junk

HIPAA creates a legal obligation to protect patient privacy.

If you face legal consequences for your actions, then it’s a legal responsibility.

Not all ethical responsibilities are legal responsibilities. Not all legal responsibilities are ethical responsibilities.

Law and morality are not the same thing. It’s unethical to cheat on your wife. It’s not illegal. It’s unethical to cheat at Monopoly. It’s not illegal.

There is no legal responsibility for CBS to do anything that Trump demanded.

There is no legal basis for the lawsuit.

Frivolous lawsuits like this are unethical.

Bonus... do you know how much damage fake news has done to America?... comon man... they covered up the biggest swindle in US history... a mentally impaired president with an unelected staff calling all the shots...
they damn near got WW3 started...
So now you want a ministry of truth? I thought you guys didn’t want government policing “disinformation”?

Biden created a ministry of truth to investigate American citizens truthfulness... You don't need a ministry of truth to spot blatant news media disinformation....

But you think the legal system can be used to punish those you perceive as doing so, right?

Because the first amendment only applies to the people you think it should apply to?

Not the legal system.... here you go again... you are confusing criminal law with civil law....

Using the AutoPen Disinformation Standard, Trump could have deplatformed Paramount

I still cannot believe Trump left CBS off with only 16 million in payments. Trump spends that in a weekend.

Had it been 160 million, I still would have considered that they got off light.

Trump should have demanded 1.6 BILLION.

No kidding but many ethical violations are not illegal but can be sued against. If a doctor doesn't give you all the options for your treatment and pushed the one that he or she will most profit from, its not illegal, but it sure is unethical and you can sure sue the pants of of him or her for that ethical violation if you can prove it.

I agree but CBS sure has an ethical responsibility to be fair in their reporting of news or interviewing candidates right before an election to the most powerful job in the world.

And they found out what happens when they tried to protect a word salad woman whom they wanted elected and who was incapable of clear, concise language that actually meant something.

You have a rock head or you're dumber than a rock.

You're incapable of understanding that ethical violations are suable and, in fact, are sued every single day.

Doctors have a legal responsibility to provide the standard of care for their patients, not to mention extensive legislations such as the anti-kickback and Stark laws.

The question is whether there could be any legal repercussions from their actions, and the answer is no. Lots of unethical behavior is covered by the first amendment. It’s unethical for RFK Jr to spread lies and misinformation about vaccines but he’s protected by the first amendment. Trump lies all the time, which is very unethical, but he’s protected by the first amendment (when he’s not actively defaming anyone).

You keep forgetting that CBS has a first amendment right to produce their news program.

You just want to control their speech.

Those lawsuits cannot violate someone’s constitutional rights.

You just don’t want to talk about the first amendment because it shows your own hypocrisy.

You sure don't understand what doctors do. Please show me the law that states a doctor has to provide information to every patient about every option for every procedure.

And I have never forgotten that CBS has a first amendment right. It's you who can't stomach that ethical violations are suable. Now go take a nap, grandpa. Your brain sorely needs more oxygen.

Trump's lawsuit did not violate CBS's rights according the the court that allowed the lawsuit to proceed.

I don;t want to talk about it because it's a complete red herring.
