The South had this wrong view of Lincoln as being the RADICAL leader who wanted to transfer the country
The facts, was that L has zero intention on getting rid of slavery in the states were it was legal. Lincoln only wanted to get rid of slavery in the new states from the Mexican American WAR.

The South was losing power in the House and Senate and was terrified they would have slavery removed in current states along with new states.

IF the sides had better communication then the WAR would could have maybe been avoided.

Interesting how the Civil WAR was TIED INTO the Mexico American war

Long before the Civil War, in 1854, Lincoln addressed his own solution to slavery at a speech delivered in Peoria, Illinois: “I should not know what to do as to the existing institution [of slavery]. My first impulse would be to free all the slaves, and send them to Liberia, to their own native land.”

Lincoln had a honeymoon of relatively weak support in congress after he was elected. He had personal problems for sure but he should have used that time to create some sort of a peace accord between federalists and states rights supporters. Apparently he didn't have the skill or the will to deal with issues crucial to the future of the Country. He failed and he believed his political advisers that a civil conflict wouldn't last more than a couple of months. Fawning revisionist "historians" and novelists credit Lincoln with "saving the Union" but ironically the Union fell apart under his watch.
