Oregon governor threatens jail time and or hefty fines for Coronavirus 'freeze' violators

[QUOTE="Muhammed, post: 25935191, member: 27210"Clearly a violation of the people's 1st amendment right to peaceably assemble.
Its not even close to the persons 1st amendment right.[/QUOTE]

Congress shall make no law* respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

* Incorporated to the states and lower governments, via the Fourteenth Amendment.

So yes, this order does blatantly, undeniably, violate the right to peaceably assemble, as affirmed in the First Amendment. There is no rational argument to deny this. The First Amendment explicitly affirms and protects this right, and this order explicitly violates this right.

Even if this was being done by the legitimate legislative or initiative processes, rather than by an illegal dictatorial order, it would still be unconstitutional.

Welcome to blue-hell Oregon.

Oregon governor warns violators of coronavirus 'freeze' could face jail, hefty fines

Those who violate Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s (D) statewide two-week “freeze” issued over the weekend to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 could face jail time or a hefty fine.

According to The Oregonian, violations of the new order, which prohibits indoor and outdoor gatherings of more than six people from two separate households, amount to misdemeanors.

Those who fail to comply with the restrictions could reportedly be fined $1,250 or placed behind bars for up to a month. People in Oregon faced similar penalties for violating the governor’s stay-at-home order back in March, the paper noted.

In otherwords, Oregon's dem governor is saying F your Thanksgiving!!

There is such a thing as a judge who oversees who goes to jail. The governor is not an emperor. No one has heard from any judge yet

Judges don't get involved until somebody brings suit against the offender for constitutional violations.
Are you suggesting that the governor can order people jailed and they never get a trial. Never get before a judge and are not entitled to a defense?

I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about a judge to stop her from carrying out this idiocy.
That wont do any good. A judge in California ruled against the governor's idiocy. Then put in a restraining order.
The governor just issued more nonsense laws. To be effective judges need to throw these cases out.

Clearly a violation of the people's 1st amendment right to peaceably assemble.

Kate Brown should be arrested.
These people are insane.

The only people at risk are the elderly and people with lowered immune systems. Let them lockdown.

The 40 and under crowd are at much less risk from COVID than they are from the common flu. Let these people get on with their lives, albeit still observing mitigation measures, and staying away from the elderly.

These 70 year old politicians and bureaucrats want to punish the entire nation, when it's only them who are at risk.

I'm on the Central Coast and it ain't a "Blue Hell". We don't mind wearing face masks in enclosed public spaces. We can still pick up or get delivery of food from any restaurant in town. Most pickups offer curbside service. And we're not interested in attending super-spreader events.

Deal with it or MOVE - (You could always pay the fines or do the time if that's your preference. ;-)
