If Zimmerman had simply called the police and went on his way we would not be discussing this today.
Probably not. But on the other hand, if Martin didn't attack Zimmerman, he'd probably be alive today too; in prison? Likely, but at least he'd be alive.
Martin felt threatened. This entire law is about people being able to protect themselves when they feel threatened.
If he felt threatened, why didn't he run back to the house he was staying at?
Why doesn't everyone that feels threatened simply run? If everyone did that, there would be no need for this law, right?
(he told his girlfriend why he felt threatened)
Some of us can’t run. With my back and hip problems I could only hope that my running would cause my attacker to laugh so hard that he wouldn’t chase and catch me.
There is nothing wrong with using that tactic if you can to avoid a confrontation. I learned that when I took a jujitsu class years ago. The object is to survive an incident not be a hero.
it is also possible that you might be in an area where running away can be difficult such as a dark alley you are unfamiliar with.
If your attacker has a firearm he may shoot you dead while you are trying to run away. Not all bad guys are terrible shooters.
