With the fall of France to the Nazis...North Africa had strict anti Semetic laws put into place throughout the region controlled by the Vichy French Government. Jews were put into concentration camps and used for slave labor by the Germans when they occupied North Africa. Many were sent to concentration camps in Europe. The only reason that Jews in North Africa and weren't killed in the same way as they were in Europe is that the British and the Americans took back North Africa from the Axis Powers earlier in the war.
