An ocean current in the South Atlantic reversed for a while for the first time. This could affect the carbon cycle, and create a situation where a portion of the ocean is no longer a carbon sink, but an emitter. Again like portions of the Arctic no longer being a sink but an emitter, we are seeing the beginning of a major tipping point.

The collapse involves the deep overturning circulation in the South Atlantic — which typically pulls cold, nutrient-rich water up from the ocean floor

So lessee: Something that we have never seen happen before but we are sure WE caused it, and that it will be BAD, worse than what we have now, not better.

Currents cannot pull cold, nutrient-rich water up flowing in the other direction I guess.

Seems to me that at the very least, the reverse current should pull hotter water from the surface down deep cooling it off, saving the planet.

And that sinking warm water will push cold, nutrient-rich water to the surface.

Lol! Old Smelly Socks the fear monger looking for some more USAID boondoggle funding.

Planet Earth is on fire in the middle hurtling thru the universe, spinning at 1000 mph at the equator you dumb crook. You can't control a mass like that driving a Prius on the surface.//

So China needs to scale back, right?

So 8 years of the Hussein and 4 years of AutoPen didn’t fix the planet?

Funny the article does not show a map naming the current affected, nor does it explain how the S Atlantic current could reverse, which means then it would be flowing headlong directly crashing into the current that circles Antarctica.

Which is really odd considering that the S Atlantic gets it spin from the Antarctic current in the first place.

The CO2 FRAUD is so desperate it has tried the

water causes ice "theory"

...

never mind water is TOO WARM to cause ICE, because if it was cold enough, IT WOULD BE ICE.... duh...

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, it is clear you NEVER read the PNAS paper LINK the media source grossly misrepresented.

There is no actual current reversal or tipping point the paper never made such a claim it was from the propaganda media who made up the lies to promote another climate change lie.

Here is the ABSTRACT you never read you lazy lying BUM!!!

“For decades, the surface of the polar Southern Ocean (south of 50°S) has been freshening—an expected response to a warming climate. This freshening enhanced upper-ocean stratification, reducing the upward transport of subsurface heat and possibly contributing to sea ice expansion. It also limited the formation of open-ocean polynyas. Using satellite observations, we reveal a marked increase in surface salinity across the circumpolar Southern Ocean since 2015. This shift has weakened upper-ocean stratification, coinciding with a dramatic decline in Antarctic sea ice coverage. Additionally, rising salinity facilitated the reemergence of the Maud Rise polynya in the Weddell Sea, a phenomenon last observed in the mid-1970s. Crucially, we demonstrate that satellites can now monitor these changes in real time, providing essential evidence of the Southern Ocean’s potential transition toward persistently reduced sea ice coverage.”

Of course these changes mean nothing. Just ask the people in Europe and our own nation currently fighting fires caused by extreme heating events. Of course, we have had extreme heat before, but not the number of recent heat events. We have had floods before, but not the number of recent events. We have had flash droughts before, just not the number of recent events. And as the people in Texas know, these flood events harm no one, right? Lovely to see you demonstrating your stupidity for the whole world to see.

15th post
ocean currents spread around heat, they do not change Earth heat content as a whole. Ditto for wind...
What you just said is correct, and abysmally stupid. Change where the wind blows, and slow or speed up ocean currents, and where the heat and moisture are at changes. Which means major changes for those that inhabit the areas affected. But that is just too advanced thinking for you, right?

That you cannot understand simple language is not my problem. What this said is simply that the change in currents has been raising the salinity of the ocean surface, reducing the effect of the melt of the Antarctic ice in expanding that ice. Ah well, maybe you will learn to read with comprehension someday.

Blah, blah, blah. Still waiting for a map of where this amazing current is, or at least the name of it, and just how the Atlantic ocean now flows 180° against the flow of the polar currents in the Antarctic south ocean.

You might also add how people in northern Europe are being affected by currents in the SOUTH Atlantic.

But thanks for the deflection into ad hominems to hide your lack of information.
