Ukraine became a separate nation from the Old Soviet Union in 1991. Once separate, they had the right to go their own way and elect who they wished for leadership.
So, if you were the leader of some (any) nation and Russia or some other nation amassed troops and armor on your border, you would wave a white flag and say, "we surrender," rather than fight to maintain your independence?

Well IMO, impossible to predict.
Whilst the majority of young people (below 30-35) in Western Germany can't be bothered about "national" feelings - due to 70 years of educational brainwashing and preferring PC games or posting whatever photos and comments on Social Media - those in the Eastern part haven't been educationally brainwashed YET. (however those folks are a total minority within this age-group in Germany).

Anyway - I do not believe in a "national" spirit for e.g. Germany, France or Britain, etc. in today's times.

I belong to those who favor a common European spirit - with everyone feeling free to preserve or sport his cultural traits.
Get rid of this nationalistic rotten and corrupt EU parliament - and get a United States of Europe finally done.
