It turns out I was wrong about Obama being unwilling to support better border security and genuine requirements for gaining citizenship. The Senate immigration bill, S. 744, which he has vowed he will sign if it reaches his desk, would be a huge step in the right direction. It's not perfect. It's not everything I would want. But it has most of what I want. In fact, it's surprisingly tough in many of its provisions. So I commend Obama for being willing to support it, and I don't blame Obama for being frustrated at the GOP House leadership for refusing to allow the bill to come up for a vote on the House floor.

Now, that said, that still doesn't give Obama the right to start issuing executive orders to enact the provisions of the bill. As of now he doesn't appear to be planning on doing that, and I hope he continues in that mode.

Do you actually trust Obama to enforce all aspects of the law considering his history in ignoring laws and parts of laws that he doesn't like?

One, it would be largely taken out of his hands.

Two, he's only going to be president another couple years, and many of the bill's provisions require wait times well beyond 2 years.

Three, I think Democratic politicians know that most rank-and-file Democrats don't want unconditional amnesty and an open border.

I think it's revealing that many liberal groups have "reservations" about the bill--because they think it's too tough.

People don't want the 12,000,000 invaders who are already here to have a path to citizenship.

People want those 12,000,000 to get so fed up with America that they pack up and return home under their own power, and at their own expense.

We do that by denying them jobs, schooling, property ownership, housing, routine healthcare, licensure, banking and financial and wire-transfer services, etc., until there's no point staying here, and they self-deport.

Both parties are vote-whores and are presently pandering to Hispanics, to the detriment of the nation at-large.

The government does not enforce our laws.

The government does not secure our borders.

The government does not enforce our sovereignty in this context.

Whatever would make a reasonable person believe that they'll suddenly begin to do so, simply because somebody waves a magic immigration fairy wand in Washington DC, and conjures a path-to-citizenship into existence?

We've heard this before - in 1986 - when we granted Shamnesty to 3,000,000 - we were promised that it was a one-time shot and would never happen again.

And here we are, 30 years later, with 400% of that 1986 figure ( 3,000,000 X 4 = 12,000,000 today) on our hands, and more lying-sack-of-shit promises that it'll get fixed this time.

Horseshit.

The power brokers are just looking for 'cover' under which to make permanent the latest gaggle of 12,000,000 low-end worker-bees.

Enough already.

Here's hoping that the protests in that California town catch-on like wildfire around the country.

Immigration Reform = Codespeak for Shamnesty

The problem is that, in this bill, Obama promises to close the Border...and nobody can trust him to do what he promises.

His opponents would effectively grant amnesty, and then they have to count on Obama to keep his word and close the border...nobody can trust him to do that after he has gotten what he wants.

His opponents want him to close the border first...then they will talk amnesty.

Its how you have to deal with a Liar.

It doesn't matter if you trust Obama. The bill sets up hard triggers and double-checks on border security. Most Americans do support a pathway to citizenship as long as the illegals who are here get in the back of the line, learn English, and pay their fair share--the bill mandates all three of these items. The bill also requires certification that the border has been secured and allocates lots of extra funds to beef up border security. All things considered, it's a pretty good bill. It would certainly be a huge improvement over what we have now.

Yeah... that's the Party Line, alright, but our fellow countrymen in Murietta, California, and the keen interest and applause that they are drawing from the rest of the country, tell us a different and more truthful story, when you get right down to where the bear shits in the woods.

And, amongst the Sheep who think what they're told to think, and who actually buy into that Happy Horseshit, how many think that way simply because they've given up after years of delays, and decreasing faith in the government in this context, and who foolishly believe that there's no way to force the Invaders to go back home, without actually deporting them all?

How many fail to understand what Self-Deportation (making conditions sufficiently miserable for Illegal Aliens, so that they go back on their own) can do, to cull that herd of 12,000,000?

Besides, any immigration bill floated by that walking train-wreck Harry Reid and Company, doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of seeing the light of day (passing the House, as well, and subsequently getting signed) - and rightfully so.

Not to mention that most politicians - Left, Right and Center - including the very many Vote Whores on both sides of the aisles who will kiss ethnic ass, push come to shove, all want to kick the can down the road again for the next Congress - after the November 2014 mid-terms.

Your precious Senate bill is already DOA.

We've heard this all before. Dems tricked Reagan into giving amnesty to 5 million illegals, promised tight border security and that it would never happen again. Now there's 20 million illegals and the dems are up to their same old tricks. Fool me once.

The 12,000,000 aren't going to up and leave, that's a pipe dream an the money wing of the republican party won't allow it as they are cheap labor

Of course Obama supports it. I will bold the reason for you. His entire Presidency has been based on don't blame me, blame the man behind the curtain.

Using Obama and Vow in the same sentence = LOL * 10 ^ 32,658

That's not a very good reason for the GOP to block what appears to be good legislation.

Obama is done in 2 no matter what.
This country has a future beyond this administration.
Do it for the kids, GOP!!

Well.... Don't leave us hanging, OK!

What are they? We need to know what parts are unconstitutional and why so we can write our congresscritters!!
Got link?

Obama's "right" about the immigration bill...? in what way....? Obama hasn't been "right" about almost everything he does...

it's a "huge step in the right direction".....? in what way....? allowing people to break our laws and get away with it by giving them "pathways"...?

the only way to make this whole thing "right" is to discourage those who came here illegally by making things here so unpalatable for them that they leave....

NO MORE F****** WELFARE...no jobs....no school....no housing....no hospital....no NADA...

only LEGAL immigrants need apply...

no country can survive an open borders policy combined with a freebie welfare system...

It would certainly be a huge improvement over what we have now.

This should be reason enough to work the legislation through the house for a final version and get it signed.

**** Obama - he's a lame duck.

WHY would it be an "improvement".....? and for whom....?

Want to see a large portion of the 12 million illegals leave the country voluntarily?

1 - Take away automatic birthright citizenship. Require at least one parent to have been a Citizen at the time of the child's birth before the child is born with American Citizenship.

2 - Require all employers to use E-Verify. Don't use it? Lose your business license for 2 years. Hire an illegal and lose all State and Federal Contracts for 2 years.

3 - Don't require Schools to educate illegals . Not here legally, you can't attend American Schools.

4 - Hospitals are not required to treat illegals beyond basic life saving procedures.

5 - No welfare for illegals. This includes housing.

6 - Illegals, upon ordered deported, are held in custody until they are escorted to the nearest border

7 - Allow all States and Local Police to arrest illegals for being here illegally.

8 - Allow States and Local communities to pass State laws and Local Ordinances dealing with illegals.

9 - Confiscate wire transfers made by illegals. Since they were here illegally, any money they earned was illegally earned and should be treated the same as money earned through drug dealing and other illegal activities.

10 - Those who aid illegals should be charged for aiding and abetting criminals.

11 - Finally.. Entering the Country illegally is no longer a "Civil" Crime. Make it a felony.

One last point..

Any Country ( Looking directly at Mexico right now ) that aides people from their own or other countries in their attempts to enter the U.S. illegally loses all Federal aide. Every frigging dime.

We automatically close our embassy and bring home our Ambassador and staff.
