50% of federal income taxes in the US are paid by the top 5%.
Middle class carrying the burden? Hardly.
Middle class have it hard, sure. But carry the burden? No way.
You must listen to a lot of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, because they love to throw out this misleading statistic.
On the other hand, you might just be misinformed.
Did you realize that federal
income tax is only one part of the tax burden of the average american citizen pays? In addition to the income tax, the Federal government levies a host of other forms of taxes and fees, including but not limited to payroll tax, gasoline tax, excise tax, and about ten billion types of fees and other revenue generating programs. On top of this, the average american pays a host of state and local taxes.
So, when you figure in all forms of federal taxes, plus state and local taxes, property taxes, and the myriad of fees that Feds, States, and cities levy, the middle class is shouldering the lions share of the burden.

If you want to vote against your own economic self interests, just because Rush Limbaugh has propogandized you, go for it. But, you should realize that you've been manipulated into voting against your interests by dishonest and misleading rightwing talk radio
