The Obama administration on Friday ended a 33-year ban on Medicare coverage for gender reassignment surgery — a major victory for transgender rights and a decision that is likely to put pressure on more insurers to provide coverage for such services.

The ruling by a Department of Health and Human Services board was in response to a lawsuit filed last year on behalf of Denee Mallon, 74, a transgender woman and army veteran from Albuquerque.

So my question is this, If SCOTUS ruled that under a 1994 federal law known as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which Alito's opinion said prevents the government from "taking any action that substantially burdens the exercise of religion unless that action constitutes the least restrictive means of serving a compelling government interest."
what about me and millions of other Medicare PAYERS that under my RFRA my payments to Medicare are being used that are offensive to my religious beliefs!

AGAIN... Obamacare is respect to RFRA totally void!

We already have difficulty paying for life saving healthcare for people. Why do we want to add voluntary cosmetic surgery to the mix?

Health care for all Americans will be improved because Obama, with his dictator power, has decided that we pay for someone to have their penis removed. The new born death rate will be lower. Those without coverage will be covered. Everything will be better because we now cater to a senior that wants to take out their junk.

What in the hell is happening to US?

So now the tax payers are required to pay for voluntary surgery?

They are literally trying to bankrupt us.

The article says "independant board", did Obama appoint all of these board members? And this references only Medicare. Those 65 and older undergoing gender reassignment sounds dangerous.

15th post
the rw throws out another bone with no meat on it .. medicare= older people 65+ years of age+ .. = their $$ they donated all their working life=a personal choice

of course, as usual, the rw is sick of anything that isn't their business to begin with

woe is them

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Medicare has been paid by the employer and employee.

The recipient's choice, period.

Step off, hm.

I'm so tired of the progressive movement

Obama should not be fast-tracking a procedure he and nobody else in the APA for that matter has little if any true understanding about.

Doctors DO NOT assist patients in amputating healthy organs in order to complete a mental delusion that they are somehow "not the gender they were born as". It is a direct violation of the hippocratic oath. There is NO, as in ZERO real scientific evidence at the APA that this amputating and multilation actually helps an individual. In fact, there is plenty of evidence it makes their precarious mental state even worse. The APA even admits that they don't fully understand what causes a person to reject their own gender so viscerally that they want assisted-amputation. And why, after many of these amputations are performed, the poor mutilated patients have a belated change of heart and want to "go back".

It is complete madness with the blessings of society now. And without a full understanding.

Obama should be interviewed and asked if he fully understands the process by which an individual believes they are something they are not. Then we should talk about what other healthy organs or appendages that people believe they no longer want attached to their bodies should doctors be allowed in the assisted-removal of.

Then from there we can talk about assisted-suicides. Maybe a person was just simply "born wrong" and doesn't like their entire body as a whole and wants to start over?

ie, where does this medically-sanctioned "playing God" end?

Someone should take this one to the US Supreme Court and force doctors, the AMA and the APA to explain themselves on public transcripts.

So, what you are saying is that all federal programs must be first checked with each individual citizen to make sure no one is offended. How about the Quakers? Do we need to disband the armed services because they are pacifists? Or are we only concerned if you are offended?

As to this person's surgery. Nope. I have no problem at all with it. You see, I am of the opinion her medical treatment is not my business. It seems you think it is yours.
