Nuke energy is STILL toxic, carcinogenic, radioactive and no one wants radioactive waste in their backyards

I'd sooner have a nuke plant on my property line than a wind or solar farm.

Hey, all those prior nuclear meltdowns like 3-Mile Island and Chernobyl, they were all due to horribly short-sighted designs that never should have been approved. I remember at 3-Mile, they ran all the wiring for the emergency back up systems down through the same trunk cabinet as the main system, so when fire took out the main system, the back up didn't work neither.

So a nuclear accident is almost unthinkable today in the USA. Besides, if one ever did melt down and explode, most of the radiation cloud would blow over you heading towards Washington, DC., so it is a win/win for all.

Actually we've been able to initiate a pretty big amount of fusion since the 1950's, we just can't control it.

Someone above mentioned something about 43 seconds--- whatever the record now, I know they've made some real progress, but control is everything. If you cannot control it, you got nuttin'.

Actually you got a Fusion Bomb, which we seem to have figured out :)

I guess all it takes is a million degrees and enough pressure to overcome the strong force in a hydrogen nucleus and crush it together to form helium.

Like being in a jet at 30,000 feet and moving up to 30,000 feet and 1-inch.

Only 93 million more miles to go.

But yes, they CAN initiate a tiny point of actual fusion, but they can only sustain it for an instant.

What they are trying to do in a tiny laboratory ordinarily takes a star at least twice the mass of Jupiter to do.

The longest previous "instant" was less than a second, nothing sustained.
