Now MAGA's Free Speech Warriors Plot to Censor Our Teachers

‘The Texas Education Agency (TEA) says it is investigating 281 educators for posting or sharing “reprehensible and inappropriate content on social media related to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.” The Texas American Federation of Teachers (TAFT) described it as an “extreme case of government officials witch-hunting those who disagreed with Kirk’s politics.”’
[…]
‘At least one local board went ahead and fired a teacher just two days after Kirk was killed. The Klein Independent School District (ISD) had received an anonymous tip regarding Schindewolf Intermediate School football coach Derek Woods for his response to a Facebook post thanking Kirk “for all he has done.” Woods, who doubled as a social studies teacher, responded, “I don’t get why anyone is sad...Yes he is leaving behind 2 beautiful little girls and I pray for them. but that man was a horrible f-----g human being. He was a legit racist, homophobic, a misogynist, transphobic nasty person. Plus he said out of his d--n mouth ‘people should die in order for us to protect the second amendment.’”’

Hate speech is entitled to First Amendment protections – the authoritarian right of course has contempt for free speech and the First Amendment.

And speaking the truth about Kirk isn’t ‘hate speech’ – Kirk was in fact a reprehensible individual, a hateful racist, bigot, and misogynist, and political violence cannot be justified no matter how reprehensible an individual might be.
Something you're too stupid to understand..... Yes, Hate speech is protected by the 1st Amendment but..... And here's the part that you're too ******* stupid to understand --

AI Overview

Libel and slander are forms of defamation, which involves a false statement of fact that harms another person's reputation. Libel refers to defamatory statements made in a permanent form, such as in writing, a broadcast, or a permanent image. Slander refers to spoken defamatory statements. To be successful in a defamation case, a plaintiff must typically prove the statement was false, communicated to a third party, made with the required level of fault, and caused harm or damages to their reputation.

Key Elements of Defamation
  • False Statement of Fact:
The statement must be presented as a fact, not an opinion, and it must be untrue.

  • Communication to a Third Party:
The statement must be communicated to someone other than the subject of the statement.
    • Private Individuals: Typically only need to prove the statement was made with negligence.

    • Public Figures: Must prove actual malice, meaning the statement was made with knowledge of its falsity or with a reckless disregard for the truth.
  • Harm:
The statement must have caused actual harm to the subject's reputation or livelihood.
Common Defenses to Defamation
  • Truth: If the statement is true, it cannot be considered defamatory.

  • Opinion: Statements of opinion are generally protected by the First Amendment and are not considered defamatory.
Libel vs. Slander

  • Libel: A defamatory statement made in a permanent or published form, such as in a book, article, website, or video.
  • Slander: A defamatory statement that is spoken.
Balancing Free Speech and Reputation
Defamation laws in the United States aim to balance the right to free speech with the right to a good reputation. While the First Amendment protects opinions, it does not protect false statements of fact that cause harm.

Important Considerations
  • Jurisdictional Differences:
Defamation laws can vary by jurisdiction, as there is no single federal defamation law.

There are some things about history and literature you can't talk about without mentioning God.

Ok. Your initial remark sounded like you speak to students about matters of faith. So you don't discuss such things, correct?

Ahhh, so two wrongs do make a right, right?

Sometimes the other side has to learn their lesson, not just be told to stop ******* around.

Dems are in the FO period of FAFO.

15th post
From what I have observed, it has been going on all my life.

you aren't very observant. Republicans have been the loyal opposition, pretending to oppose, but not doing squat.

Those days are over.

If a student asks me something about my faith, I answer them briefly then move on. If a student has a question about another student's faith, I let that student answer or I help them answer if they don't quite have the language for it then we move on. No converting, no evangelizing, but it's not a taboo subject.
