This school district has decided that, in effect, it will no longer have a Valedictorian - not recognize the top academic student. I suspect there are lots of other schools and districts doing the same thing. I've read in the past that some have decided to award the top five or the top ten equally.

Leftists (who dominate public schools) seem to have a problem with actual competition. They feel "empathy" for those who compete and lose, or who cannot realistically compete.

When this matter has come across my personal radar screen (certainly I was never a candidate for such an award), it seems there were games being played that could give one student an advantage over the others because of some arcane rule - a particular Honors course or elective that carried more weight than others, and things of that nature.

But is this a good thing, eliminating the Valedictorian award for the top student? Could it prevent a student from a lesser-known school from admittance to a particularly selective college? Should anyone care?

College is the same as high school, which is like junior high or middle school, which is like grade school. How is this education? The mind is never challenged.
