Fuel is why. No returning from Mars fuel is there. Our best rockets take 9 months to get there. Those rockets never return. IT is a one way trip for anything we have. Who understands this? If you need more persuading, here it is.

It will be a lot easier to get to Mars and back when we have permanent bases on the moon. We can fly a bunch of rockets filled with fuel to Mars, land them there, and then the people we send won't have to carry the fuel to return home with them.

With current technology it is a one way.

We might improve in the future.

The real problem is that Mars, like the Moon, really "isn't there" as far as human colonization.

If we could knock one of the gas giant moons out of orbit and smash it into Mars at an angle to make the "new Mars" orbit more circular, that would help big time.

Moon 180k miles away

Mars about 35 million at its closest point to Earth

180000
35000000

minor difference...

Money would be better spent buying me a Martin guitar.
Fixing somebody's roof.

Makes sense with the tech we got now.

As far as Musk...a YT channel said it is all a cover story that hides Musk's work for the gov in weaponizing space. Dunno if true... just saying what I heard.

musk we will save america.webp

If our species can survive for even just another 1000 years we will get there, no question in my mind. We will also start colonizing other planets.

If we do that, it risks putting people on Mars who won't be able to return. Tell me, did you watch the video?

Can men we send to Mars construct a massive rocket to return men to Earth?

long ago many didnt even conceive of us making it to the moon....

Did you watch the video? He gave a very well-reasoned series of explanations why we won't return from Mars.

Facilities we have on Earth or later on the Moon, simply are not feasible to take to Mars.

On Earth we have what we need to reach Mars. But on Mars there, not presently or in the future, can facilities be constructed on Mars to return. Mars has no fuel. Mars has no mines. Mars has no cranes. Mars has no smelters. Mars simply is not able to support returns from Mars.

???

Which ones?

Mars and Moon have no water, no air, no food, not good. No other planets or moons are even close to our temperature requirements +
Impossible to know, the imagination is only limited by our internal doubts.

Moon is a mere 283,000 miles, approximately from Earth. We can reach the Moon in 3 days. We need less than 3 days fuel to return. Mars is a staggering 9 months away.

I hoped the readers would first play the video.

No, but who said a rocket needed to be constructed on Mars? We can fly the return rocket there and keep it in orbit until it's needed.

We will likely send some of Musk's AI robots to Mars at some point.

And the reality of space travel with our current technology.

We have a more than 5 billion year deadline to deal with this issue, because the Sun will grow into a giant red star then, and Earth will no longer be habitable.

While Mars and Moon are useless, some of the gas giant moons just need some heat, and they'd work...

We can get there. We can't return. Did you watch the video? Since on Mars, there are no supplies there, no system of carrying heavy loads there to deposit them, how will men on mars survive?

I believe for readers to understand; they need to watch the video.

That is much harder to solve than inhabiting Mars is.

Orbits seem likely to be manned. Why didn't you watch the video?
