Zion, Jerusalem is central to the faith, history, language, culture of the jewish people. Jews were returning to the land before "zionist movement" existed. The movement existed before the holocaust. The refugees from the holocaust wanted to help build (rebuild) a state where they can be who they are and have security against the hate, bigotry, persecution, pogroms and massacres. They helped develop the land, infrastructure, economy, education, defense and government for a jewish state that give freedom to all faiths and rights to all citizens.

Of course it doesn't make sense. She also forgets that the fallout from a nuclear blast would also kill her beloved "Palestinians." Since she mentioned small potatoes, when you consider what is happening in the rest of the Middle East, the Israel/Palestine conflict is small potatoes in comparison. However, no matter how many thousands have been and are still being murdered in the Middle East by her good buddies, the dead bodies there are not central to Amity's agenda.

I never said it was bread and roses! But it is not as bleak as Jewish history in Europe by a long sight!

And of course as usual check everything you see online against reality. I wish I could recommend a really good Jewish history book I read about 20 or 30 years ago. I liked it especially because it didn't just focus on Ashkenazim, it told the story of Jews everywhere in equal detail, and it also focused on important personalities and their achievements, both good and bad. I had a feeling it was a really balanced perception. But yes, sure there was anti-Jewish feeling in the Islamic world at different times. And anti-Christian feeling at times too. It just depends on what is going on. If we can change what's going on, whatever anti-Jewish feeling exists now will be moderated. That is always the way things work.
