• the compound formerly (but not at this time) housed a clinic and a school
• there were no indications that it was a religious site
• the two nuns had evacuated to a safe area
• Hezbollah militants were using the empty compound for military purposes
• that militants were using the compound to attack Israeli forces is the reason Israeli forces entered into the area in the first place
