New Hampshire lawmaker reflects on retiring from Congress: ‘I’m trying to set a better example’

WASHINGTON — As Representative Annie M. Kuster leaves Congress, the New Hampshire Democrat is hoping some of her colleagues might be inspired to do the same — and wishes President Biden had earlier, as well.

Kuster, 68, said her decision to retire was based on many factors, including Donald Trump’s approaching return to the presidency, but she hopes it will also encourage Democrats to make room for younger generations in the halls of power.
“I’m trying to set a better example,” Kuster told the Globe. “I think there are colleagues — and some of whom are still very successful and very productive — but others who just stay forever.”

And as for a role in a new Trump-led Washington, she said: “I’m just not the best gladiator for it right now.”

What a grand idea!! Demcorats really should not subject themselves to the stress of dealing with another Trump presidency. They deserve to be at peace in private life.

Damn shame another dem is taking her place.
Okay then...

Hmmmm. Only served 21 years in the House with full retirement, at age 68, not to exceed 80% of her $174,000 congressional salary, ie, $139,000/year, eh? Cool. Congrats to the retiree.
Kuster announced on March 27, 2024, that she would not seek re-election to a seventh term in the U.S. House.[2]

Yep, she made a career of it then tries gaslighting us about it......I bet of they would have dragged her out kicking and screaming if she had lost two years ago.

What 2022 election did she lose. All I could find was her announcement in March of this year, while in office, stating she would not run again. If she lost in 2022, why was she still in office in 2024? There is no mention of losing a 2022 election,

I'm sayin' if she lost two years ago before that sweet full congressional pension kicked in.

Oh. I get it. No. I am pretty sure, she looked at her retirement, and age. If you can't get by on a 100 to 139 thousand income plus medical in retirement at age 68, you really need to reevaluate lifestyle and what you are actually able to do at that age and beyond. Anybody that cannot be debt free after 20 years on $174,000/yr plus benefits, is too stupid to be in Congress in the first place, so retiring continuing income greater than 85% of all Americans working or not working, even if waiting until age 68 is pretty cool. I understand, she was a lawyer and a lobbyist before that. She beat the game by considerable margin and 68 ain't that old. I stalemated the game at 60, debt free and happy as a clam.

Great job! I was on track but missed my window, as having to continue restructuring, after losses of the 2008/2009 crash. I'm still amazed, I pulled it off, when I did. I sure couldn't see it happening up ahead, when in my 20s and 30s, struggling.

Yep, I grabbed that brass pension ring, two of them in fact, (State and DuPont) when I was able and puttered along till I reached full SS age.

Other than taxes and utilities I owe nothing.....CC paid off every month.

Yep, all things considered, life is pretty good! :)

Just another taxpayer mooching useless Democrat we now have to carry.
She worked 20 years so gets the same retirement as anybody else in Congress, Dem or Republican. If you were wanting to push for Term limits of 3 terms then up or out in both houses, I could go for that, but as it stands, the rules are the rules.

The male Dems are modern radical women also. They resent a strong guiding hand that will end Woke jokes and all government by feelings

"worked" you say, okay what did she accomplish for all the money we paid her and will continue to pay her? I think we are back to useless Dem mooch.

I am not in her state. I am pretty sure, the Tennessee Congressmen didn't accomplish anything for Tennessee, just as certainly as our accomplished anything for New Hampshire. What was it, you wanted her to accomplish for your state? The only thing, I really know about New Hampshire, is they pretty well set the mark and #1 in the country, as far as supporting 2nd Amendment rights, so they have the 2nd lowest violent crime rate in the country, and 3rd lowest murder rate in the country.

15th post
She is not retiring because of Trump. Not unless she was certain Trump would win back on march 27th when she announced her retirement.

The elite are never honest, they are liars

Yes! She can take 15 or 20 of them with her...I support this!
