If the NFL wanted to do something worthwhile, they could sponsor a couple levels of "minor leagues," as is currently done by MLB (and to a lesser extent, the NBA). These teams could be franchised in the scores of cities in the 200k-500k population range.

Among other things, these teams could provide gainful employment for the hundreds of young, skilled FB players who have no interest in college, and candidly speaking, have no business on a college campus in other than a janitorial role.

Then maybe the colleges could spend a little more on education.
