Nexstar joins Sinclair, says it will continue not to air Jimmy Kimmel tonight

There is no "free speech" in a corporation.

You don't get to tell your boss he's an idiot without some potential penalty.

The 1st amendment says "congress shall not....." Not private enterprise.

Happy to help :p

& in this case - sinclair/nexstar are going on trump's directive via the FCC. that is the gov'ment interfering.

And, that has what to do with anything? The first Amendment is more about protecting you from government interference in your free speech. They should not be intimidating broadcaster to lime free speech, at least according the US Constitution and the consistent view of the Supreme Court, down through the years, including the current Supreme Court.

Did you mean to answer your own question....?

If so, why did you ask?

I have no idea, why they would not keep the FOX NEWS. MSNBC or CNN feeds.
What did they load into the those time slots? Does FOX NEWS, MSNBC and CNN have multiple feeds each, so local providers get to choose, what news, you get to see?

This should be a major story. I am positive, America does not want to have a network, given the ability to control 68% of the national market, that already cuts out the normal feeds of FOX NEWS, CNN and MSNBC on a major news even of interest to many of their viewers. Obviously, I am not in a Sinclair market. If Sinclair is a major cable market controller, I assume they are a major internet provider. Who knows? The would be in position to cut off all current news, as a personal or business whim. You people in those markets had best be on your toes and ready to speak out, as the FCC usually opens up for public comment, before major historic changes in regulation, affecting service to the public, and up until now, free speech.
The affiliate model has changed. It used to be the networks paid the broadcast stations to show their content, so there was an in$$sentive to do so. Now the broadcast stations pay the networks for access to their content which gives them greater power to pick and chose what they broadcast. Our ABC station is a Sinclair owned affiliate, but I have no idea what they did or did not show in relation to Kirk or Kimmel or anything else. I seldom watch them unless it is to tune into the local news to see what they were covering when I happened by one of their crew taping in town. While cable/satellite is a different beast, disputes happen more often with them. We lost on of our NBC affiliate channels as well as one of the CBS ones when Hearst and Directv got into their pissing match. I am on the state line so traditionally we were in 2 different overlapping markets for each network that resulted in us getting 2 of each network from different broadcast stations.

Wow! I had no idea, it was like that. Can I assume, you are somewhere out in the vast hinterland of the country? Not trying get you to say your state and certainly not area, as in these charged times, it might not be a good idea.

I am in the mid-Atlantic. The downside of this situation is that after the digital conversion, you can't get crap in our area without paying somebody because we are too far from any of the network affiliate broadcast towers to get a signal from any of them. A little further away some people have had a little luck with tall amplified antennas on poles but terrain and distance block us out completely.

Ha ha; Guess he'll have to return to male prostitution.

Sinclare is attempting an acquisition, that would put it above FCC regulator limits and require a Major FCC rule change, that has been in effect for decades, preventing one company from controlling too large a market share, across the country. Do you blame them for keeping Kimmel off the air to please the FCC chairman, that has veto power over their acquisition and the requied regulation change? Dream on.
Nextstar's attempt at Tegna puts them in the same boat.

To big corporations, free speech is free speech, but business and profits, outweigh free speech.
Profits define the peoples interest and support

Free speech is not and never has been the issue. it is an attempt by liberals to support Kimmel's right to publicly act like a moron!

My concern for your opinion of me is even less than you might think.

Sinclair Broadcast Group has made a total of 11 acquisitions. These acquisitions, which occurred in United States (10) and Australia (1), span 6 sectors, including MarketingTech (1), Sports Tech (1), and Tech for Traditional Advertising (1). The peak acquisition years were 2017 with 3 acquisitions, and 2013 and 2019 each with 2 acquisitions. The average number of acquisitions per year for the last five years (2019–2024) is 0.4. No acquisitions have been completed in the current calendar year. The most recent acquisition closed in January 2024, with Baltimore Sun Media Group, a Baltimore-based digital marketing and content development services provider founded in 1837.
What do any of those have to do with television stations?

15th post
Shown primarily on FOX NEWS but additionally covered on CNN and MSNBC.
You mean FOX CNN or MSNBC are not shown on Sinclair stations? That is amazing! Are you sure, you don't mean Sinclair stations did not preempt regular scheduled broadcasting for the event?
Are you sure you support them coming into controlled ownership of greater than 39% of marketshare across the country?
No, they are not. TV and cable are different, but you should already know that!

Why would I? I don't live in one of those news blackout areas. I am in part of the 80% plus, part of the country where, leading news and information networks are not censored.

Government is not censoring anyone, if you have internet you can get Kimmel from the app and no one has a right to watch Kimmel and a private company making choices not the government. You are a drama queen.
