Sinclare is attempting an acquisition, that would put it above FCC regulator limits and require a Major FCC rule change, that has been in effect for decades, preventing one company from controlling too large a market share, across the country. Do you blame them for keeping Kimmel off the air to please the FCC chairman, that has veto power over their acquisition and the requied regulation change? Dream on.
Nextstar's attempt at Tegna puts them in the same boat.

To big corporations, free speech is free speech, but business and profits, outweigh free speech.

Nexstar Media Group, one of the nation's largest local TV station owners, said it will continue not to air "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" ahead of the show's return.

In the meantime, Nexstar said its stations "will focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets." It noted that Kimmel's show is still available on streaming.

Sinclair Broadcasting Group already announced that it would also continue to preempt Kimmel's show, meaning that a large number of stations will not air Kimmel's return. Among the areas affected are Washington, D.C., where Sinclair owns WJLA, which serves the DC-metro.

Sinclair, the largest owner of local ABC affiliates, has said that it will preempt Kimmel's show with news programming. Sinclair previously said that it would not lift its own suspension of Kimmel until "formal" discussions are held with ABC. It also called on the comedian to make a personal apology to Kirk's family and "a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk family and TurningPoint USA."

That's roughly a bit better than half the ABC affiliate stations in the country.....Including the one in my AO.

I guess The Mouse and the Hollywood types aren't as powerful as they thought.

You have no actual proof that the government made any demands. It could be that Kimmel's lie waa more than Sinclair and Nexstar would tolerate. There is no way this show, struggling at best, will survive the loss of 70 markets. Disney can give him a show on Hulu.

I don't care what he has to say. At all times his free speech rights were intact and were never removed, infringed or challenged. There is no right to an audience. Certainly no right to compel me to listen.
