Nexstar joins Sinclair, says it will continue not to air Jimmy Kimmel tonight

Trying to save face I see, I get it, you like to lie.
My concern for your opinion of me is even less than you might think.

Sinclair Broadcast Group has made a total of 11 acquisitions. These acquisitions, which occurred in United States (10) and Australia (1), span 6 sectors, including MarketingTech (1), Sports Tech (1), and Tech for Traditional Advertising (1). The peak acquisition years were 2017 with 3 acquisitions, and 2013 and 2019 each with 2 acquisitions. The average number of acquisitions per year for the last five years (2019–2024) is 0.4. No acquisitions have been completed in the current calendar year. The most recent acquisition closed in January 2024, with Baltimore Sun Media Group, a Baltimore-based digital marketing and content development services provider founded in 1837.

So why would Sinclair preempt the Kirk Memorial, it was a very popular Republican event, would have gained them lots of beownie points.
Shown primarily on FOX NEWS but additionally covered on CNN and MSNBC.
You mean FOX CNN or MSNBC are not shown on Sinclair stations? That is amazing! Are you sure, you don't mean Sinclair stations did not preempt regular scheduled broadcasting for the event?
Are you sure you support them coming into controlled ownership of greater than 39% of marketshare across the country?

  • Nexstar said it will continue not to air Jimmy Kimmel following Disney's announcement that the late-night host will return.

  • Last week, the gigantic local TV station owner said it wouldn't broadcast Kimmel's show before ABC suspended production.
Nexstar Media Group, one of the nation's largest local TV station owners, said it will continue not to air "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" ahead of the show's return.

In the meantime, Nexstar said its stations "will focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets." It noted that Kimmel's show is still available on streaming.

Sinclair Broadcasting Group already announced that it would also continue to preempt Kimmel's show, meaning that a large number of stations will not air Kimmel's return. Among the areas affected are Washington, D.C., where Sinclair owns WJLA, which serves the DC-metro.

Sinclair, the largest owner of local ABC affiliates, has said that it will preempt Kimmel's show with news programming. Sinclair previously said that it would not lift its own suspension of Kimmel until "formal" discussions are held with ABC. It also called on the comedian to make a personal apology to Kirk's family and "a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk family and TurningPoint USA."

That's roughly a bit better than half the ABC affiliate stations in the country.....Including the one in my AO.

I guess The Mouse and the Hollywood types aren't as powerful as they thought.

Hey, maybe MS-LSD or CNN will air it. ;)

Disney is trying hard to get Kimmel's ratings down to zero so they can shitcan him for good.

It's already pretty close:

Many network affiliate stations across the country aired his memorial, none of Sinclair’s stations did, nor did Sinclair ABC affiliates play the ABC Special Kirk special the night before. I am sure you are bright enough to understand, or maybe not, now that I think about it.

Good--And once again--They are shooting in the Dark-- Kimmels contract is up in a couple of months. That is when they can just quietly move him out.

I have no idea, why they would not keep the FOX NEWS. MSNBC or CNN feeds.
What did they load into the those time slots? Does FOX NEWS, MSNBC and CNN have multiple feeds each, so local providers get to choose, what news, you get to see?

This should be a major story. I am positive, America does not want to have a network, given the ability to control 68% of the national market, that already cuts out the normal feeds of FOX NEWS, CNN and MSNBC on a major news even of interest to many of their viewers. Obviously, I am not in a Sinclair market. If Sinclair is a major cable market controller, I assume they are a major internet provider. Who knows? The would be in position to cut off all current news, as a personal or business whim. You people in those markets had best be on your toes and ready to speak out, as the FCC usually opens up for public comment, before major historic changes in regulation, affecting service to the public, and up until now, free speech.

Talk to the FCC about why they have allowed this, it’s been going on for decades. I didn’t watch it. As far as network TV, I don’t even know or care what is on. I left the networks and cable awhile back.

I used to be on Charter, but their bills got high as a kite. Now on Eplus, owned by Jackson Utility Division, for both cable and internet, via their high-speed fiber network. I get everything all networks, for news and information, plus the Samsung app feeds, as most of our TV's are Samsung. I have no problems with news and information being cut out, by somebody like Sinclair.

Sinclare is attempting an acquisition, that would put it above FCC regulator limits and require a Major FCC rule change, that has been in effect for decades, preventing one company from controlling too large a market share, across the country. Do you blame them for keeping Kimmel off the air to please the FCC chairman, that has veto power over their acquisition and the requied regulation change? Dream on.
Nextstar's attempt at Tegna puts them in the same boat.

To big corporations, free speech is free speech, but business and profits, outweigh free speech.
There is no "free speech" in a corporation.

You don't get to tell your boss he's an idiot without some potential penalty.

The 1st amendment says "congress shall not....." Not private enterprise.

Happy to help :p
