Newsom suing Trump for defunding California's train

Newsom has had 16 years to build a bullet train--, has spent billions, and not a single piece of track has yet been laid.

Without any heavy equipment or other modern inventions, Americans laid over 1,700 miles of the transcontinental railroad and had it operational in six years in the mid 19th Century.

So Newsom's lawsuit against Trump for canceling federal funding for the railroad is a bit silly especially when it is based on Trump playing petty politics and vindictiveness which is absurd on the face of it.

The original plan was for 800 miles of a high speed train. That has been reduced to 171 miles and only 57 miles of work preparing the ground to lay track has been done with massive cost overruns. How much money does Newsom expect us to throw after bad?

The amount currently scheduled that is now pulled is $4 billion. As long as the GOP is in the White House there won't be any more wasted on that mismanaged project.

Why doesn't Newsom just use some of the mega billions he is spending on illegal migrants to pay for his train?

But of course, the pelosis wont be getting that side income anymore...Gavin is related to Nancy by marriage

The entire thing was a boondoggle.

Somebody got rich and taxpayers got hosed
Anyone with any knowledge of trains knew that from the git-go. The station-to-station time was impossible to meet without the trains running over four hundred mph on the flats and that assumes tunnels under two mountain ranges and three seismically active zones.

There was never meant to a train

Back in the 1800s a railroad was built to cross the nation. California can't manage a few hundred miles
In the thirties, forties and fifties, Southern Pacific used to run the Coast Daylight from downtown L.A. to Downtown S.F. in under ten hours pulled by STEAM ENGINES. The fastest approved version of the California High Speed Rail train couldn't match that time.

THIS BUGS ME, MOST OF THE WORLD HAS KILLER TRAINS, WHATS WRONG WITH US????
In most of the world, cities are much closer together. In the USA, the only place that high speed rail has a chance of being profitable is in the BosWash corridor between Boston and Washington where there is a lot of rail travelers and a lot of highway congestion. There aren't enough travelers between L.A. and S.F. for high-speed rail to ever make a profit.

I don't know what ethics stuff Pelosi is involved in though her behavior in Congress strongly suggests that ethics is not her strong suit. But without proof she is getting any side money, I won't comment on that.

OK, that is about the most delusional post I have seen in a long ass time.
Then show your proof those Chinese were illegal.

My history books and other sources say they were brought here by the U.S. government mostly to work on the railroad construction.

You really don't read to you.

The high speed rail project had been in the works long before Obama. I believe Gray Davis was governor in 1996 when the idea first appeared but it wasn't until 2008 that it got started.
Yes. GWB was President then but Congress was solidly Democrat then. Pelosi was Speaker which may or may not have been an important factor.

Some people love the slower pace of train travel except in those very high population areas where trains make sense. But most prefer the flexibility of auto travel or the much more rapid efficiency of air travel of which the USA uses to connect all cities of any significant size and serve all the people which few, if any, other countries do.

Trains are still useful to move large quantities of freight cross country, mostly in containers that become part of semi trucks at destinations. On road trips, especially out here in open country, I marvel at the mile or more long trains with car after car after car stacked with those containers and feel very grateful that they all aren't on the highway with me.

But if passenger train travel was really important to the USA, Amtrak would be profitable and wouldn't need heavy government subsidies. It has never been. We have had a commuter train, the Railrunner, traveling from just south of Albuquerque to Santa Fe several times a day for many years now. It was supposed to seriously cut down on the traffic congestion on I-25 especially between Albuquerque and Santa Fe (roughly 50 or so miles between stations) and be profitable within a reasonable time. It hasn't made much difference in the traffic and it has never been profitable even though ridership is pretty high.

Newsom was elected Lt Governor in 2011 and Governor in 2018. He's still a young man. With his second term completed next year. I won't be surprised if he doesn't push the legislator to remove term limits from the equation. If that happens, with a heavily controlled woke Democrat legislature, we'll see how that goes.
Don't think so. CA voters were disappointed with Jerry Brown in his third term and the term limit proposition came after that. Newscum is toast in CA. If he doesn't get the nod for the POTUS nomination, he's done.

I hope you're right. But the few leftwing wackos I know in California think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I fear there are a lot of those there.

Kamala got fewer votes in 2024 than Biden did in 2020 and Trump got more votes than he did in 2020, but Kamala still got 58.4% of the California vote in 2024. Trump got just 38.3% of the vote.

I fear the state is doomed to be leftwing wacko to at least the end of this century.

No. I didn't say that.

I do believe Democrats in this country have lost their way, are no longer servants of the people, deal in dishonesty and malfeasance and maliciousness to a degree we have never before seen from a political party. They are not at all interested in seeing to it that government is accountable, efficient, effective for all the people. California seems to be the poster child for that situation.

I honestly don't know how honorable people can defend that.
CA isn't the only one. WA does their share of hoodwinking the public. Spokane is expert at it. The voters there voted against the whims of the powers that be when they chose to keep a sports complex that the leaders didn't like----soooo, the leaders did it the way they wanted anyway. The same is true with the homeless initiatives that Mayor Brown and the council want--in opposition to the public will. They just secretly plan and approve "homeless transition" communities and when they announce that they are going in, it is too late for the public to do anything about. Democrats are thieving scum---my words.

CA is a hard nut to crack for sure, but it has been done. Since 1980, they have had three republican? governors--Deukmejian, Pete Wilson and Schwarzenegger. The biggest surprise to me was when they put Jerry Brown back in office.

But how effective were Scwarzenegger, Wilson or Deukmejian? Actually though Wilson and Deukmejian preceded most of the corrupt woke Democrat party. So despite considerable controversy, especially with Wilson, they both probably did a decent job. These days Schwartzenegger is far more Democrat than Republican actually. He is strongly TDS and was a strong supporter of Kamala Harris.

I think the last really great Republican governor of California was Reagan.

It was all Cloward-Piven just moneywaste.
Cash4Clunkers was even worse because it took the bulk of affordable cars off the roads
and all the service industries associated with them, too.
People say Obama was dumb. He wasn't dumb, he actively tried to scuttle the US from within.
And The Train to Nowhere is a part of that.
Spending resources inefficiently and slowing infrastructure is what we are at.

LOL, look who he's married to. Maria Shriver?
Was married to. They separated in 2011 with the divorce finally finalized ten years later. Presumably infidelity (his) was involved with him fathering a child with another woman.

I read that Maria, though a member of the Kennedy family, is a registered Independent. She may not be as radical as modern day Democrats. RFK Jr certainly isn't.
