Newsom suing Trump for defunding California's train

There was never meant to a train
Do you really think that? They have done 57 miles of sort of advance preparation. Land cleared. I think a partial bridge built.

I think roughly 1/4 of the cost of the train was to come from the federal government with California paying for the rest.

The original plan was for the project to be completed by 2020.

For the math challenged, it is now 25 years later. Newsom has been working on it for 16 years as Lt Governor and Governor.

Newsom whines that they were just getting ready to start laying track. But as is posted above, he doesn't even have all the permits necessary to complete the project yet.

Yeah I believe it and if you don't you're clueless. Billions spent on 57 miles? Good grief

CA has gubernatorial term limits of two four year terms in a lifetime. Newsom is currently in his second term so he is either a POTUS candidate or retired after this term.
Newsom was elected Lt Governor in 2011 and Governor in 2018. He's still a young man. With his second term completed next year. I won't be surprised if he doesn't push the legislator to remove term limits from the equation. If that happens, with a heavily controlled woke Democrat legislature, we'll see how that goes.

But would they have cleared the 57 miles and started building a bridge if there was no intention ever of a train?

You could be right about that, but I think there is just as much chance of gross incompetence as there is outright fraud. But do I think Newsom capable of fraud? I sure can't reasonably rule that out.

Without making any judgment on the competence or veracity of this source, there are some scathing accusations of Newsom here:

Oddly that bullet train didn't make that top ten, but kickbacks from contractors did and who hasn't thought that a possibility with so little result from so many billions spent on the train?

I'm just reluctant to accuse somebody outright without hard evidence.

THIS BUGS ME, MOST OF THE WORLD HAS KILLER TRAINS, WHATS WRONG WITH US????

The high speed rail project had been in the works long before Obama. I believe Gray Davis was governor in 1996 when the idea first appeared but it wasn't until 2008 that it got started.

In California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger played a role in establishing the California High-Speed Rail Authority. This Authority was tasked with planning, designing, constructing, and operating a high-speed rail system across the state. The system is currently under construction and is overseen by the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA).

Newsom has had 16 years to build a bullet train--, has spent billions, and not a single piece of track has yet been laid.

Without any heavy equipment or other modern inventions, Americans laid over 1,700 miles of the transcontinental railroad and had it operational in six years in the mid 19th Century.

So Newsom's lawsuit against Trump for canceling federal funding for the railroad is a bit silly especially when it is based on Trump playing petty politics and vindictiveness which is absurd on the face of it.

The original plan was for 800 miles of a high speed train. That has been reduced to 171 miles and only 57 miles of work preparing the ground to lay track has been done with massive cost overruns. How much money does Newsom expect us to throw after bad?

The amount currently scheduled that is now pulled is $4 billion. As long as the GOP is in the White House there won't be any more wasted on that mismanaged project.

Why doesn't Newsom just use some of the mega billions he is spending on illegal migrants to pay for his train?

So what you're saying is --

dimocraps are thieving scum?

Nothing is wrong with us. It's a matter of practicality. We are the third largest country in the world by population, and the fourth largest by area. Of those countries only China has an extensive network of high speed trains and Russia a less extensive network. But effort to serve all the people just doesn't exist in those countries nor is the standard of living anything close to ours.

And countries that are no larger than a single smaller U.S. state or sometimes just a few U.S. countries can realistically do very different planning for their people than can a very large country with a lot of open space.

The USA is a representative democratic republic, not totalitarian. The government must represent and operate by consent of the people. Folks in North Dakota or Texas shouldn't be on the hook for a high speed rail that serves only California or connects New York and L.A.

But the United States does have the most thorough, efficient, and accessible air service in the world providing access between cities better than any other country and serving all the country.

No. I didn't say that.

I do believe Democrats in this country have lost their way, are no longer servants of the people, deal in dishonesty and malfeasance and maliciousness to a degree we have never before seen from a political party. They are not at all interested in seeing to it that government is accountable, efficient, effective for all the people. California seems to be the poster child for that situation.

I honestly don't know how honorable people can defend that.

Nonsense. All the Chinese who worked on the railroads were here by express permission of the U.S. government. I do wish you leftists would read once in awhile.
He/It/Xe/Xim knew that. It just chose to lie to try to score cheap political points.

I've remarked on it in here several times.

The Chinese laborers were allowed to bring family, wives but at their own expense.

When I got out of the Army, I was recruited by an outfit that ran security for Saudi Oil Wells. All I had to do was ride in a Jeep that had a Ma Deuce on it all day and make what would be in today's money, $150k a year.

Not a lot, you say? It is when you consider it was tax free at the time, and all your room and board was paid for.

You could bring your wife but it was frowned on, and it was on your dime. Too many bad experiences with Western Women in Muzzie Countries. They take NO SHIT from females and would just as soon knock a woman on her ass as look at her. No matter whose woman it it was.

Things have changed now. They gotten much more civilized but back then.......

I didn't take the job. Sometimes I wish I had.

Not really. They're much better now but, back then? Nasty. Flies everywhere, in your house, in your food.... Just not up to western standards at that time

OK, that is about the most delusional post I have seen in a long ass time.
