Newsom suing Trump for defunding California's train

The high speed rail project had been in the works long before Obama. I believe Gray Davis was governor in 1996 when the idea first appeared but it wasn't until 2008 that it got started.

A train (high speed or otherwise) is a stupid idea when you can fly to SF for 59 bucks. You're there in half an hour and from the airport you can take the BART anywhere in the Bay area for another 2 bucks.

Yep, YOU sure can. LOL, I make it a policy to stay out of that state if I have any choice. After living in the central valley for over 50 years, you can have it. It is a shame that such a beautiful state has been ruined by the progs.

Land will become more available as more people leave and freshwater becomes more scarce, but that reduces the need for public transit. AI taking all the spare electricity might be the last nail in the coffin.

I don't know what ethics stuff Pelosi is involved in though her behavior in Congress strongly suggests that ethics is not her strong suit. But without proof she is getting any side money, I won't comment on that.

The pelosis are major investors in Salesforce, and nancy has been steering money to a light rail project that runs near the land where salesforce built their campus and apparently it has severe inflated the value of that land and the land in the area. The pelosis have benefitted from this financally.

Newsom has had 16 years to build a bullet train--, has spent billions, and not a single piece of track has yet been laid.
Without any heavy equipment or other modern inventions, Americans laid over 1,700 miles of the transcontinental railroad and had it operational in six years in the mid 19th Century.

Well, there is a simple explanation:
  • In the 19th century, all railroads had to worry about was an abundance of manpower.
In the 21st century of California, to lay one mile of track, progressives have made them responsible for:
  • Worker rights.
  • Worker healthcare.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • Water table worries.
  • Obscure plant species relocation.
  • Minor insect and crustacean disturbances.
  • Weather impacts.
  • Potential climate effects over the next 500 years.
  • Impact on trade and tourism.
  • Affecting views from space.
  • Solar system studies including whether space aliens would find the Earth more or less inhabitable.
Is it any wonder it is taking California a long time and more money than expected? Be patient and have a heart!

All true. There is a funny satire going around for years now as to how Noah would never have been allowed to build an ark in this regulatory environment.

But a competent leader would be able to get it done just the same however many obstacles were in his path. I think Newsom hasn't even tried.

If the flood happened today in California, nothing would be saved because Noah would be endlessly tied up in bureaucratic red tape first having to do an environmental impact study on how cutting all the trees down to build the ark would impact the environment, then California's economy, finally, a study on the impact of where to dispose of all the poop on board the ark once the waters receded.

So Newsom's lawsuit against Trump for canceling federal funding for the railroad is a bit silly especially when it is based on Trump playing petty politics and vindictiveness which is absurd on the face of it.

The original plan was for 800 miles of a high speed train. That has been reduced to 171 miles and only 57 miles of work preparing the ground to lay track has been done with massive cost overruns. How much money does Newsom expect us to throw after bad?

The amount currently scheduled that is now pulled is $4 billion. As long as the GOP is in the White House there won't be any more wasted on that mismanaged project.

Why doesn't Newsom just use some of the mega billions he is spending on illegal migrants to pay for his train?

The people in central CA laugh about this boondogle all the time.

I can't recall who the CA gov was, but some years ago there were problems with a freeway in Sacramento and the new bay bridge. He found a contractor that did both jobs under budget and before the contracted time. It was one of the biggest successes in gov't I've ever seen. Limited for sure, but I wish we could get cooperation like that more often.

I wish the high speed rail is ready to run just to show what an idiot Newsom is when riders aren’t there.

To be fair, when the government says something people either go along, or get a 9mm bullet to the back of their head. No obstructions at all that’s why China is building empty cities.
