Well it's like i said they paid the price for starting a World war and losing, think about the reality of the time, the Soviets didn't want the Germans to be a threat ever again, when you look at events these days i think they had a point, also not everything was bad in East Germany with social benefits etc not saying it was ideal but not black and white, the leader in East Germany Erich Honecker was no Nazi he was in a Gestapo prison in the War did you also know the General who was commander of the Nazi Panzer Army who was defeated at Stalingrad Paulus spent his life after the War in East Germany, for some reason the Soviets allowed him to live, people also had free housing and medical services, after the wall came down millions lost their jobs and GDR industry was eaten by big Corporations from the West, they also had a law in West Germany called "Berufverbot"that denied employment by the State to tens of thousands of West German citizens because of their Socialist or political leanings that later spread to the private sector, it was a Nazi style law.
