My thought is as obscure as jigaboo is, chances are she heard it from some movie like Spike Lee's "School Daze." If you popularize a word, you can't then raise hell when someone uses it.

The goal for pretty much all of these young local television reporters is to move on to larger markets until you're either employed at the mother ships, or are a star in a big local market and are making some big bucks.

Saying something like this places all of that typical goal at risk, and at the same time gains you nothing even if you completely get away with it.
Go ahead and call her a retard, she at the very least was extremely sheltered from growing up around racist terms such as this.
Bottom line, it simply would make no sense at all to use the term purposely, unless you have a death wish.
