Venezuela essentially stopped producing oil because it put political operatives in charge of the oil industry who forced the professionals who ran it away and then ran it into the ground by not maintaining the equipment and looting the operating funds. According to Reuters News Agency US companies can still buy Venezuelan oil, they just have to deposit the purchase price into escrow accounts that aren’t available to Maduro’s government until the unelected dictator steps down. those sanctions don’t affect any other countries and India and China are large purchasers of Venezuelan crude, but only India can afford to pay Maduro in cash.
