Lithium powered sub half the size of a nuke sub.. Good to see our Allie producing top of the line equipment. US needs to get it naval shipbuilding in order. No more of building something before the design is finished giving us white elephants

Not impressed. Give me a nuke any day!

Interesting. I wonder how fast they are. I can guess that they'd be very maneuverable but I'm also guessing that they're meant for coastal defense and not really designed for the high seas/international waters.

The Manta Ray is an extra-large, experimental uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) developed by DARPA and built by Northrop Grumman, designed for long-duration, autonomous deep-sea missions, featuring a manta ray-like shape for stealth, modularity for transport in standard containers, and novel energy systems to hibernate on the seabed for extended periods, acting as a versatile, "fire-and-forget" submersible for intelligence, surveillance, and potential weapon deliver

Except when active sonar is employed. Then you are dead meat!

Diesel subs against aircraft with sonobuoys is not a fair fight in any way.
Sonobuoys are passive, quiet keeps you alive. Active sonar gets a torpedo launched at you. First to launch usually wins.

Wrong! Leave ASW to the professionals. I spent 6 weeks in ASW school. How and when did you?

Torpedoes don't work against helicopters or fixed wing aircraft. Subs can't shoot back!

Oh boy, six whole weeks! My friend is the Captain of the USS Nevada. I'll take his opinions over yours any day of the week.

What would he know about surface and air-employed ASW if he never did it? He was on a boomer.

He learned how not to be a victim of other air and surface threats as well as other submarines, but the subs motto for my boomer was "We hide with pride".

Sheesh, if you're the Captain of a boomer, one of the biggest targets on the planet, you had better be an expert in ASW tactics and weaponry, because if you ain't, you're dead.

Critical thinking isn't your strength, is it...

You were the one that said we didn't have the active sonobuoys we dropped from out helos to track diesel subs. I'd say your lack of knowledge is the key point needing addressing. Were you the only qualified ASW evaluator other than the ASW Officer on the ship?

I know what the **** I am talking about. With all due respect to your friend, I doubt your Captain ever took part in an exercise against surface and air assets, because they rarely do. They are always in prep for deployment, deployment, and crew turnover/maintenance period.

Remember: Hide with pride. That's their job. They aren't supposed to be located.

Send your grandkids to japan before the f****** hipsters buy it all up... Buy vacation home leave it to them
The American , aussies and kiwis are snapping up properties ...

If I was twenty five thirty years old...

Imagine a battery fire, one that cannot be extinguished with water, foam, or gas … inside a steel tube sealed off from the world and crammed with Japanese sailors.

It’s nice to see that Japan still has that Kamikaze Spirit.
