Modern “satanist” philosophy is really just about 60 year old. Founded in 1966 by the very serious character, Anton Lavey. Here’s a photo of Lavey wearing what is basically a children’s Halloween devil costume. Very serious person.

Modern “Satanism” was basically a theatrical shtick. Unfortunately a lot of dim-wits took it seriously and clung onto the idea. Over the years they have reinvented the shtick, each one trying to outdo the last less-than-serious incarnation. The Satanic Temple dates all the way back to 2013 and is primarily an anti-Christian group of activist provocateurs who engage in civil law-fare against Christmas displays and school clubs.

Anton was only a sad continuance of the rebellion against the Catholic Church centuries ago. Stupid really. Satanism was the 'woke' of its time.

Really like a cartoon version. A caricature made for public consumption. Lavey tapped in to the rebellious social movements of the 1960’s youth. There is very little substance in it. They even divorced themselves form any kind of actual theism. Neither the Church of Satan or the Satanic Temple believe in Satan. While Christianity does recognize Satan, these “satanists” do not. It’s in part because they aren’t really what we think of as a religion. They are more like a political activist 501(c)(3) group who likes to cosplay devil-worshipers.
