Killing gay people was never a publicly acceptable act encouraged by society and the government as it is in Iran and some other Muslim countries.

The US govt. never condoned such actions, it was done by citizens in communities...Whether it is done by govt. edict or individuals, the results are the same.....Now that homersexuals can marry, we see a certain segment of society using vocalized religious bias to still condemn equality..

Yes, but instead of focusing on those insignificantly insignificant bigots, how about focusing on the huge regressive hordes that thinks we should "kill all cops", that we should import those who execute gays, or the ones that think "All Lives Matter" is a racist slogan.
