I'm sure your circle of acquaintances had little reason to discuss Juneteenth, but it and it's significance is well known to the rest of the country. The name of the holiday does reflect a little ignorance. It reflects the lack of education that the slaves had been allowed to receive up till that point. What do you expect from people who had commonly been beat just for trying to learn to read?

I agree that the name does not reflect the importance of the date but keeping the name honors those who remembered the day while the rest of the country tried to forget.

The Declaration of Independence spoke great words but the deeds behind those words? The reality?

The Constitution and first 10 Amendments guaranteed freedom to less than 25% of the people under its rule.
Women: Could not vote, could not own property
Black: Could not vote but White people got 40% more representation for having them around.
Natives: Don't get me started.

Less than 25% of the people in America were "free" under the constitution.
The end of the Civil War bought an end to legalized slavery in the US.
BUT did not bring freedom to those people unprotected by the Constitution.
That required several Amendments and SCOTUS decision and 156 years later we're still having those fights.

So, let's get rid of the racist July 4th holiday and rename June 19th as Peoples' Freedom Day.

If true another day off for govt. workers then **** current standing government even more. While private sector is expected to work through snow storms and COVID fears for example, govt. employees sit ******* home, perhaps pretending to work if at all, similar they pretend to work at the office.

Do people realize how much time govt. employees receive as is, beyond treating them like the unaccountable pussified snowflakes Democrats desire? I worked for the State a time, try on 21 days annual, 11 Holidays & 15 sick days. Just annual & holiday alone I took off one week per month over a six month period. Now if you ask a leftist, they'll probably say that's well deserved.

And that's beyond the pensions they receive for their laziness and incompetence on the public's dime.

Worked in DC a few years ago.
The Government employee managing my work made just over half my salary.
For that exchange she got more days off and access to the FRS.
She had been working for more than 20 years, BS degree, multiple certifications...
Conservatively, over the course of those 20 years she surrendered some $800k in salary for those benefits.
Maybe you should say "thanks" rather than bitching about people doing their jobs.

Do you feel the same about the military? 30 days leave, unlimited sick days, unlimited free health care, pension plan...They take this holiday too? I guess you hate the military too?
How about law enforcement and emergency services? Hate them?

Based on experience most govt. agencies over-pay their employees without consideration of benefits. Imagine sitting at a table with 20 people, half receive 50-65 a year and the other half 65-90, before all the benefits. Seven of 20 nod their heads, five are 20 are **** heads and maybe the balance knows what's going on. Then they put 200 man hours into something that should take 1-2 hours and still **** it up.

Why do you think so many govt. agencies use contractors to program despite having their own programmers? Wouldn't be because govt. agencies are so efficient. Lower to mid paying govt. is worth less in the public sector, and a lot of govt. workers are useless due it's ******* govt. So no I won't thank your manager, that's your job, and bringing military into the equation is a neat angle.

How do you think I felt as a veteran working on Veteran's Day? I taught for 21 years. My first Veteran's Day off was when I taught in a DoD school. The next ten years after that when I worked in a public school, it was back to the same old routine.

1. Yeah a General led troops into Texas and freed a whole bunch of slaves, 250K if I remember right. So they celebrated Juneteenth which comes in a variety of other labels you'd never heard of that could pass as descriptions. If anything Juneteenth is a State recognition, guess what fuckers, we live in a Republic, they should have taken it up with the State, but no, another reason for a Federal Holiday due we're tarded.

2. Texas wasn't the last State to give up slavery, you silly sallies.

3. Can't celebrate the emancipation proclamation (Jan 1st) because it was only symbolic and didn't even apply to slave States dedicated the union. ******* war was going on, yeah sure, the confederates could really care.

4. Interesting to note those who hate the country cuz we had slaves, the birth of our nation slowly worked slavery out soon after the Revolutionary war. The USA was initially established by your socialist loving British. If 1776 means anything to you, the first State to abolish slavery occurred 14 years later. So, stick it up your ass really, let me know when you discover a country with no history of slavery, and blacks aren't alone.

5. 13th amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865, now there's something of importance. I can clearly see how this would be a federal Holiday, an area of importance and not for just blacks, but the left often has a distaste for the Constitution anyway, so "Juneteenth" it is (COUGH!).

6. Or if you'd rather the Republicans clearly freed slaves from Democrats on the date they won the war, which is April 9th. But Juneteenth it is because today we speak in code which most of the public has no idea of what or why. The left likes it this way, the dumber the better.
