Mystery illness in Congo kills more than 50 people, including children who ate a bat

We have lots of bats in my area because we have many caves in the area....I am still looking for Dracula.

for the record-----bats carry rabies

How come RFK Jr. didn't list them as something he wouldn't eat?

RFK Jr. says he’d eat ‘virtually anything’ — but not a dog or a human

And we all know he'd try dog.

don't explore the cave----you can get rabies just by
casual contact-----avoid socializing

If these idiots were on Alone and they discovered a bat cave, they'd make nets, capture bats and eat them to outlast their opponents. They'd just boil them first or cook them well done.

One guy had mice in his tent. So he rigged a trap and while everyone else was eating fish, rabbit, squirrel, this lazy mother fucker was holed up eating mice. Way too small to sustain yourself.

But if you could catch 10 bats with a net?

This is the problem with Republicans. They don't base their opinions on facts. They don't do their research. Instead, they just KNOW somehow that bat meat ain't good. Even though it is.

Bats are regularly hunted and consumed in Oceania, and are the only native land mammals of many isolated islands. About 23% of Oceania's bat species are hunted, or 40 species. Bat meat is considered a delicacy in the Cook Islands, Niue, Guam, the Mariana Islands, and Samoa.

I am a snob when it comes to spelunking and diving...
Suddenly Irosie is for social distancing. Not when a deadly virus is going around. I wonder if she would put on a mask if she went in a cave? Considering they don't work.

Don't touch the bat, Bro.

The solution is rather easy to be had.

Many years ago they found a dead bat outside the school and sent out a warning to everyone about rabies, so "don't touch the bat, Bro!" became a family saying.

About 10-15 years ago they had episode of Survivor where they put out all kinds of disgusting food for the starving tribe, and one of them was bat. The thing might have been cooked but it looked like it was not, it was sitting in some kind of soup, and some dude just wolfed down a whole bat. The tribe looked at him like he was nuts.

So long as it is not a man-made virus like Covid, it should be Ok.

Usually it fizzles out like Ebola.
Ebola didn't fizzle. It was the subject of worldwide infectious disease monitoring, screening and research.

During the West African Ebola epidemic, an infected traveler from Guinea brought EVD into Mali. Immediate identification and monitoring of all the contacts of infected people successfully prevented a broader outbreak.

Vaccines to protect against Ebola have been developed and have been used to help control the spread of Ebola outbreaks in Guinea and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Early supportive care with rehydration, symptomatic treatment improves survival.
