I was there on a thursday, when there are lots of bar Mitvavs going on. The Tradition in Jerusalem is the have a mini parade with lots of andy being tossed about, followed by a reading at the Kotel. An interesting tradition.
They do the ceremonies up against the barrier for the women. There are steps on the women's side for the mamas, sisters, cousins and aunts to participate.
