My brother is sitting in an emergency room in Edmonton with a twelve hour wait they just gave him after being rushed to the hospital by ambulance ...

The NHS is collapsing, DRs leaving, wait times are huger, no mental health fir children, DRs underpaid threatened a strike,. Need a knee replacement with 6 months and live with the pain.
Conservative governments underfunded it for years.

Erlichs Book The Population Bomb predicted mass starvation and illness in the 1990s. Every prediction he made was wrong.
As though there was consensus agreement with him.

Just so a few more MAGAt heads can explode. NZ provides 'free' treatment and compensation to anyone suffering an accident in NZ, including visitors. Paid for by a workers' levy, through the Accident Compensation Corporation.

And he said it would be better insurance, too. So what did we end up with: deductibles of $6,000, monthly premiums of $800, and limited networks with 6-month waits to see a doctor.
You've got the greatest health system in the world, fer shure.

Come and have an accident in NZ. It's 'free'.

No idea what this foreign leftist is going on about.

Nothing is free. It’s just with socialism, other people are paying for it.

That's why 'free' is in quotes.

And yes, absolutely, I pay for my neighbour when they need it and they pay for me when I need it. Every other developed country does the same, most without middlemen.

No charge at point of contact for hospitals for citizens and residents, children treated free up to 14 I think, no charge for treatment and compensation of foreign visitors who have accidents.

Can socialism get more disgusting?

But if you're truly injured you're kinda screwed. Destroy your knee on the slopes? Have to go to the USA to get real good reconstruction surgery. Of course places like Auckland, and Christchurch have specialists, as does Queenstown, the last I checked.

But, if you have no private insurance, you're going to have a bit of a wait. IIRC Christchurch you're looking at a wait of about 4 months.

But get further south, and you're looking at well over a year from the time of referral till you get your surgery. That's a long time to have your leg being useless.

Paul Ehrlich for one. Socialists in general are rabid about population control.

China famously had their one child policy for half a century.

There are plenty of others. Do some reading.

Are you talking about the Paul Ehrlich who predicted India would have a famine in the 90's? As for socialists in history being rabid about population control, where did you get that from? Is their list of them?

Low pay causing a DR shortage, not enough equipment, not enough funds and the basic problem is the government cant manage effective healthcare. Private systems work better because its not the government. Right now your government is a total disaster not just with healthcare. Human rights are collapsing and immigration is destroying your culture

A doctor shortage isn't caused by the NHS or any other group, it's caused because not enough people are becoming doctors. Here are the statistics for where I live.

1. 1966 - there were 115,000 people living here and 3 hospitals.

2. 2025 - there 265,000 people living here and 3 hospitals.

3. It's the same all over most of Canada

People are being born at a faster rate than people going to medical schools. I have no idea what the wait times are in the US.

Canada's health system is so great, and so free we have a wing of Renown Hospital known as the "Canadian Wing".

Your own politicians come here to the USA for their cancer treatments and cardiac procedures.

People who can afford will go to the US for treatment they can't get. Our governments also send people to receive treatment in the US because there is non one to treat them hear.

Actually, you just have to Google this. People, even with employer-sponsored plans can buy supplemental plans to fill the gaps. Those without Employer Sponsored plans can by individual plans as well. They include like you mentioned, dental care prescription drugs outside of hospitals, vision care, paramedical services, private hospital rooms and out of country travel for medical emergencies. That last one is about right. I agree that there are problems with the number of hospitals and emergency care facilities. The same is slowly happening in America as the U.S. slowly moves towards a socialist healthcare system like Canada. One reason is the income loss to doctors because of government controls. Also, the regulations and ability for patients to sue has caused many doctors to give up medicine. I've had doctors who fit the last one that gave up their practices early. By the way, Medicare allows for buying supplemental plans like Medicare Advantage.

Where did you get the idea healthcare systems are socialist? Yes doctors might get paid less but that's because the politicians and shysters make it so. As for suing there is less of that in Canada for whatever reason.

And here we have the Canadian immigration council, whatever it is, advertising to foreigners about free healthcare.

Canada is so screwed. Let us not follow them down this path.

Well it is Edmonton, the most right wing province in Canada. So expect pubic services to be on a lower standard that the rest of Canada,

But if your brother is sitting in the ER after going to hospital by ambulance, clearly triage said he could wait. How he got to hospital matters little. Anybody can call for and be picked up by an ambulance.

I spent 2 hours waiting in emergency on Sunday in New Brunswick. NB has one of the worst health care systems in Canada. I was told when I arrived, I might have to come back on Monday. I arrived at 12:00 and by 3:30 I had blood and urine testing - all good, X-rays - 2 cracked ribs, painful but no further damage, a tensor wrap for my chest, and a prescription pain killers.

When I got there, the waiting room was packed. I waited for "triage". Where the nurse takes your information, and decides how urgent your case is. The Triage Nurse, took my information and vitals, and then handed me a sample bottle and told me where to fill it.

So spare me your lies, and your bullshit.

Because in Canada, unlike the USA, if you lose the lawsuit, YOU pay the winners legal costs.
