My brother is sitting in an emergency room in Edmonton with a twelve hour wait they just gave him after being rushed to the hospital by ambulance ...

That sounds like the NHS which will treat an emergency right away but wait times are in months and even years. They are broke covid wiped out their funds

Yes that's how it works here. Covid cost a lot of money but even before that ours and your health organizations were wasting a lot of money. Here where I live they decided to redo the grounds in front of a hospital. There was no reason to but it happened because someone at the top decided to and it was probably just pet project. Let me know if this doesn't make sense, i've been awake 46 hours. Oh i forgot to mention the Tavistock gender clinic. Now that was a waste of money considering how much money they wasted just so they could screw up the minds of the people they were treating. Went on for over 30 years i think

The NHS is collapsing, DRs leaving, wait times are huger, no mental health fir children, DRs underpaid threatened a strike,. Need a knee replacement with 6 months and live with the pain.

My simple explanation for wait times is

1. more people being born than doctors graduating.

2. No new hospitals being built

I'm too tired to look up the statistics for my city write now but that's the way it looks to me.

Low pay causing a DR shortage, not enough equipment, not enough funds and the basic problem is the government cant manage effective healthcare. Private systems work better because its not the government. Right now your government is a total disaster not just with healthcare. Human rights are collapsing and immigration is destroying your culture

I have to go to sleep now but I'll share this story. Last May my nephew had a stroke so I went to see him at the hospital where he lived, Edmonton. I pulled into the parking lot and there were five ambulances in the drop off bay for Emergency. There were four more outside finishing up their paperwork i assume.

I'll reply to your post when i wake up

Youre 5 hours ahead.

Appendectomies are emergency surgery because it's fatal. Do you have a link to show who was pushing population controls back in the sixties.

You proved you don't know what you're talking about when you said a 6 moth wait for a condition that is fatal.
Paul Ehrlich for one. Socialists in general are rabid about population control.

China famously had their one child policy for half a century.

There are plenty of others. Do some reading.

Erlichs Book The Population Bomb predicted mass starvation and illness in the 1990s. Every prediction he made was wrong.

Correct. He is easily the worst predictor of the future that has come along in well over a century.

In my area, the hospitals have ER and Urgent Care. You get triaged on a walk in to either depending upon severity. Ambulance intakes always get priority.

I know triage but ambulances goes to hospitals first then to stand alone emergency centers when Hospitals are getting full.

The several times I had to use emergency, there were very little waiting because there were several emergency centers in the city to spread it out which is why it works well for rapid attention.

It is better because unlike the States a person doesn't go bankrupt when they get really sick.
But they wait for long periods of time. They end up coming to America to get help. They also have moved towards private insurance companies as well.

Are you talking about Canadians using private insurance companies more? No that's not happening because health care here free and there is no need to. People here who buy insurance are people who don't have a plan through their Employer. It's for prescriptions, dental and some other things.

The wait times aren't caused by bad healthcare but too many people. This what happened in Saskatoon where I live.

1. 1966 - there were 115,000 people living here and 3 hospitals.

2. 2025 - there 265,000 people living here and 3 hospitals.

3. It's the same all over most of Canada

Last weekend my foot was hurting and it was brutal so I asked my daughter who works at the hospital I was going to go to, "What's the best time to go to emergency to avoid a lng wait?" Her reply was 5 am and I might still have to wait a while. The hospital is in Lloydminster and has a population of around 35,000.

My foot is still killing me and I haven't seen anyone.

Canada's health system is so great, and so free we have a wing of Renown Hospital known as the "Canadian Wing".

Your own politicians come here to the USA for their cancer treatments and cardiac procedures.

Actually, you just have to Google this. People, even with employer-sponsored plans can buy supplemental plans to fill the gaps. Those without Employer Sponsored plans can by individual plans as well. They include like you mentioned, dental care prescription drugs outside of hospitals, vision care, paramedical services, private hospital rooms and out of country travel for medical emergencies. That last one is about right. I agree that there are problems with the number of hospitals and emergency care facilities. The same is slowly happening in America as the U.S. slowly moves towards a socialist healthcare system like Canada. One reason is the income loss to doctors because of government controls. Also, the regulations and ability for patients to sue has caused many doctors to give up medicine. I've had doctors who fit the last one that gave up their practices early. By the way, Medicare allows for buying supplemental plans like Medicare Advantage.

In America, it's a roll of the dice, and depends on where you live, what time of day or night you show up at the emergency room, and what your issue is. I've seen people get right in, and I've seen people waiting for hours.

^^^ I can attest to that. On December 29th of 2021, I was at my local ER at 6 PM EST due to a breathing issue and after sitting in the waiting room for five hours, I gave up and went home. The good thing is that the hospital is literally just down the street from my house, but if a person is not going to be given any attention, why even come at all?

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. My city used to have two hospitals, but one of them being closed now only makes the remaining building even more busy obviously. :( :( :(
So, their triaging was spot on. Kudos to them.

And here we have the Canadian immigration council, whatever it is, advertising to foreigners about free healthcare.

Canada is so screwed. Let us not follow them down this path.

Make Canadians wait 12 hours so that foreigners get free treatment?

Thats makes no sense to me

You are doing everything you can to avoid admitting that Democrats have not had a hand in being whores of the healthcare industry complex. You refuse to admit they take money. Democrats propose healthcare reform and insurance, pharm, and service providers have a heavy hand in it.
Whilst Republicans don't propose healthcare reform. Your post is not the flex you think it is.
