Zone1 "My Baby Needs Formula"....Cold Calling Churches

Not all women can breastfeed
Most can. And for the life of me, I don't understand why more don't. It's cheap, it's the best food EVER for your baby and your own figure snaps back really quickly. I can't even imagine making bottles of cow's milk in the middle of the night (or any other time for that matter) when you can just whip out your breast, cuddle with your baby and then fall easily back to sleep.

Shriners provide many charitable services--however, not many would be dispensed from their temples. The idea that charity is dispensed at places of worship instead of facilities that, by necessity, are designed for that purpose is ludicrous.

This. And the woman doing the cold calling did not consider a directive to visit a charity center as "helping her". Even if the church PAIRS with that center.

Most can, but some really cannot. And it's not a completely free endeavor; the mother needs to consume a pretty significant amount of high-nutrient foods during breastfeeding, as much as late pregnancy. But yes, it is cheaper than formula.

PS Not everyone has their "figure snap back" in breastfeeding. Some women retain weight until they're done.

Yes, it's just the same as pregnancy. I never found eating a well balanced diet difficult. I don't see how it would be.

If you're eating a well balanced diet, it makes no sense that one would retain weight. Your caloric output is automatically about 500 calories higher.

I think the reluctance has much more to do with sexualizing breasts the way this culture does. Women feel weird about it.

Where did she get the money to buy the phone or pay the monthly phone bill? If she knew formula was going to be cost prohibitive to her, why not choose to breast feed the infant, which requires no cost for formula, no cost for bottles and is best for both child and mother.

Recall the Bible verse stating those who do not work shouldn't eat.

That being said, in Biblical times, farmers always left about crops around the edges of their orchards and fields for gleaners who were short on food. (Note, the gleaners did the harvesting.) Another verse that comes to mind is to feed the hungry at your door. For a period of time, I had a mother and child hungry at my own door, and they were more than welcome to share what I had. I see that as God providing for all of us.

A mother on the phone while her baby is crying...oh, that makes sense? Further, I'm betting she was not the first to try this scam, and those she called politely dealt with her and others like her.

In short, the baby gets fed first. Then the mother goes out and finds what the baby needs before it needs fed again.

I have been known to give handouts to those whose true need I doubted, but did not know. If there was no need, I wonder if their conscience ever gives them a pinch because they are better/could be better than being a small-time con artist.
She didnt actually need the formula. It was an act. A test.

Mosques didnt turn her down, though. Weird huh? Mosques doing what Jesus wanted done...

Yes, I know. A con....a lie.... And you believe Jesus would have been proud? Considering Jesus' attitude about hypocrites?

He may have told a story about a woman who went out to social media to proclaim, Thank God I am not like those places whom I tested by pretending I needed baby formula (and even put a recording of a crying baby in the background). Meanwhile, those at the church have been working hard to meet the needs of the poor around them, murmuring a heart-felt, "I wish I could do more for these who are in such great need..."

Who would Jesus point to as the more justified?

Anyone who doesn't believe churches are doing enough should not grab a phone and a recording...they should be volunteering to help the nearest church. Do you think this woman saw the need to get off social media and volunteer?

Referring the woman to the church's own food pantry was turning her down? I laughed at that as my church's food pantry is right next door to the church, but apparently we would have been given a miss. I'm sure my church would have also had a list of food pantries that were closest to her and would have helpfully advised her accordingly.

Myself? Without judgment (not knowing the circumstances) I would have also called Child Protective Services. Any mother who doesn't have food available for her baby's next feeding is in need of greater help than just formula.

.

And then she'd have had to actually come up with a baby that she could prove was hers. Either that, or there would have been a whole lot of stuff going on with CPS and the authorities!

.

I would think her call was a scam. Women have more than adequate access to baby formula, diapers etc. from the government through WIC.
There are non-profits that accept and distribute breast milk donations as well. The service is free of charge and is supplied by recent mothers that have no more need for the breast milk.

A woman is going viral on social media for calling churches, synagogues and mosques and asking for formula for her baby. She doesn't have a baby, she just plays crying in the background. She is recording which churches offer assistance and which do not.

Unbelievers are mostly thrilled to learn that most churches do not offer immediate help. And at first blush, this does seem cruel.

I'm a member of a mid-sized church in the country. Even WE have many calls of people asking assistance, and, even worse, we have people coming to the doors Sunday morning for same (yes, we have strong security). We have no way, in the moment, to vet whether the request is legitimate or whether, say, the money or goods will be sold to buy drugs.

That's why many churches referred the caller to their own food pantries, which operate at specific hours, or nearby assistance the church affiliates with. The caller on social media marked this down as a "would not help".

One more consideration: churches are almost entirely member-funded. I want to help the needy with our donations, but I would certainly like my money to go to real needs, and not who-knows-what.

Thoughts?
"If it's in your power to do good, and to do it not, it is sin unto you"

The verse says, "if you WILL NOT work" big difference.

A phone is probably the last thing a homeless person will give up. It's their only contact with the world. A job, potential help from friends, etc

A little more on Mandy from Kzoo

What happened

This isn’t the first time someone has threatened to call the police on Mandy for sleeping in a church parking lot, she said.

Finding a safe place to sleep is a struggle when living in your car, Mandy said. Plus there’s an added challenge of making it appear like you aren’t sleeping in your car.

“You don’t want to get harassed,” Mandy said.

On the night Mandy filmed the video last September, she awoke to a knock on the door and note taped to her window. Someone was threatening to call the police and have her car towed.

So she walked into the building to speak with someone.

“I walk in and I’m crying and I’m just like, ‘Why would you do that?’” Mandy said. “I’m just trying to survive and they just didn’t care.”

A church representative said they could have handled the situation better and have increased their outreach to organizations helping Kalamazoo’s homeless population.

Mandy said she doesn’t want the church to receive harassment. No one from the church has reached out to her to apologize, she said.

Proof you cannot read! Try reading the OP again or have someone read it to you!

Tell her to come mow the lawn.

There is dignity in working for what you get.

If she won't, then.....

And BTW: Waiting until you are out of formula until you start looking for it is not a very responsible approach. Your emergency does not become my emergency if you don't plan. I realize she fabricated this.....tell her to go to the ER. They'll fix her up.
You didn't read the OP either! Try again.
