Wow, this is a thing? EARLY wooden (board) race tracks devoted to either cars or bikes called murder tracks?

Yeah, dangerous as hell. I have a radiator from a board track racer with a 3 foot long sliver of wood spearing it.

They stopped racing the boards in the late 1930's IIRC.

That leaves the Isle of Man TT as the most dangerous race out there. It averages more than two fatalities a year.

Oh, I remember that in bicycle races on small oval banked indoor tracks, just didn't know it was called that. The pile ups were cool to watch.
