Yea, my dad was a slave to the union. When he got time and a half or double time on holidays. When he got $3 co pay for emergency room visits. When he receives his pension checks. When he made $12 when restaurants were paying cooks $5.Thats not much of a choice
Unemployment or a slave to the union?
Non union car companies in the south tend to pay less and you have no right to your job at a company like that.
Here's a fact you can't ignore. Before Reagan and Jack Welch of GE, American workers could expect to work for 1 company till they retire. They had a right to their job. People in Germany still have this. Americans no more.
In January 2024, the median length of time that wage and salary workers in the United States stayed with their current employer was 3.9 years
According to research on employment trends from the 1970s, the average length of employment in 1975 was around "ten years" for most workers, with some studies indicating a slight decline in long-term employment compared to earlier decades, particularly for men holding their longest job throughout their career.
Remember, back then 35% of workers were in unions. Non union workers bring the number down to an average of 10 years.
