The United States’ Racist Double Standard In One Disturbing Comparison (IMAGE)

David Sweat
escaped the maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6. Sweat lived a life of crime. Sweat was convicted of first degree murder after he killed 36-year-old Deputy Kevin Tarsia of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, in 2002. Sweat escaped from prison in 2015, along with fellow inmate Richard Matt. Sweat was eventually caught and returned to prison alive.
Michael Brown was 18–years-old
when he was killed by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014. It is possible that Brown may have had some sort of criminal record as a juvenile, but it has been confirmed that if he did, none of his convictions were anything serious. Brown was unarmed when he was shot to death. Darren Wilson was eventually found to have done no wrong doing when he shot and killed Brown. The killing of Brown in part helped to launch the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Racial Divide
But the comparison is not between Michael Brown and David Sweat. It is a comparison between the public’s reactions to two different mothers who have lost their children, in two different ways. They were also both brought before the media, where they had to express their pain in front of the whole world.
