A few contemporary liberals are, John Rawls, Isaiah Berlin, Bernard Williams, Ronald Dworkin, Jeremy Waldron - my favorites today.

If you actually mean someone that advocates for individual liberty and freedom then I would say that Jesus is pretty high up there but if you including yourself into that then you are wrong. Most communist took the liberal word and used it for themselves to hide their agenda because being liberal is good.

Well by the definition of liberal, all that means is that they would like to change the current system, so communists can call themselves liberal as a general term. Associating Marxism with socialism is dumb enough, but then you go and try to define Liberalism as Marxism/socialism. Aren't you the one who trying to argue that everyone else is dishonest?

Statism is a statement you are correct on. Soft tyranny is just an opinion. It better describes what occurs when a majority rules a minority on matters like gay marriage, abortion, etc. (i.e. a failed democracy).
